You can only have one default browser, but you can certainly have both installed. I use both on my computers.

No, your computer is designed to make the one of them the default browser.
You can have both of them installed on your computer though. Also there are some programs that prefer one over the other. For example MSN Messenger will always open IE even if you have Firefox installed

You can have both, as I do. You can even run both at the same time. You set one as the default for anything that automatically starts a browser but you can easily start either one or both.
BTW: IE is required for system updates.

You can have IE open and open Firefox and browse. Only one will be your default browser.

Yes, in fact IE can not be removed, it is an intergal part of Windows.
