I have a telephonic interview in a couple of hours. I have never been through one before? Any advice?

it is no different from a regular interview.

Points to keep in mind: Just read their ad as to what they were looking for. Read your resume again (I am serious). Match what they want to what you are offering in your resume. Something in there that tweaked their interest. So, that's what you hone in on.

All other items related to interview apply here also. Only difference is they are not looking at you. Other than that, you should come across confident, polite and have forthright answers that is honest and believable.

If you don't know something or if you can't do something, say so. They appreciate that. They will also be able to pick up on how confident you are.

If the job is relating to customer service and it is mostly telephone related, then all those points are very important.

Good luck.
Let me know how you did.

Make sure to listen to the questions and speak clearly and slowly - it's sometimes hard to hear over the telephone. Basically, just use your rules for an in-person interview. Be professional and polite.

Turn off the computer, the radio, the TV. Get in a VERY quiet space with your resume and any sample (previous) work you want to highlight.

No food, no drink. (just like a 'real' interview)
Be careful of your silent times (as you think of responses)... give some bridging talk... "Let me think on that..." "I believe that the best response would be..."

good luck. They aren't hard, just different!

Dress up as you would if it were a face to face interview... Even though the person interviewing you won't see you studies have shown if you dress professionally you'll feel more professional and do better on the interview...
