I agree the first answerer doesn't know what he is talking about. He obviously has never lived here.
I also like Rustler's Rooste as someone else said. It is a fun restaurant and has a great view. Also in South Mountain Park you can go horseback riding. There is a unique park about an hour north of Phoenix called Out of Africa which has all sorts of wild cats and other wild animals. It is different than the typical zoo. The Heard Museum is a good place to go to learn about the Native American culture of Arizona. The Desert Botanical Garden is a nice place to stroll around for a few hours and see Arizona's native plants. If you want to take a day trip from Phoenix, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum on the north side of Tucson is very nice. I could go on all night, there is so much to do in the Phoenix area. Check out some of the links below, and have a great time!

Depends on what you like to do. Outdoor activities? If you have time and a car I would definitely travel outside of Phoenix to Sedona (2 hours) and Flagstaff (2.5 hours). In the Phoenix area, visit Mill Avenue, there are plenty of shops and restaurants there and you can walk to them all instead of driving all the time. Also in that area is the Temp Improv if you like comedy shows. It always makes for a great night out! If you want to do the whole club scene then head to Old Town Scottsdale. There are plenty of upscale clubs there. I've never been, but always hear good things about Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West. There are numerous tours given daily, including a popular night tour.
If you decide to go to Sedona, go on a jeep tour or check out Slide Rock State Park or Red Rock State Park (if you are visiting in the next couple weeks and it is warm out, slide down the rocks, but make sure to wear more than a bathing suit bottom - trust me). In Flagstaff there is a cute downtown area, great hiking and biking at the San Francisco Peaks, visit the Lowell Observatory and go on the night tour - it is amazing, when I was there they showed us Jupiter and Saturn through the telescope and you could actually see the different colors on Jupiter and rings on Saturn!
If you are coming in October then that is ideal. The weather will just be cooling off from summer. Hope you have a great time!

In Phoenix, there is so much to do!! You could hike up Camelback Mountain, go shopping at the Arizona Mills Mall, Fiesta Mall!! There is the Phoenix Botanical Gardens in North Phoenix, plust the Phoenix Zoo. Two hours north of Phoenix is Sedona and there is alot to see up there. You can take the Pink Jeep Tours through the canyons, and Oak Creek Canyon is beautiful. Then on your way back, you can stop in Prescott and walk through the town and visit some of the museums.
Now to eat in Phoenix.....RUSTLERS ROOSTE!!!!!! Its on a hill at the top of the Pointe Resort off Baseline @ 10 freeway. Just follow the signs up the hill!! Also there is a great steakhouse that used to be an old house called "Monti's" in Tempe next to the the US Airways Building. Also in Mesa, there is the American Bar and Grill and that is on the corner of Alma School and Baseline I believe. Its on the ground floor of the Bank of America Building.
If you need any other information, please dont hesitate to email me at : Triggersrescue_2000@yahoo.com and my name is Yvonne

You have to go to Goldmine in Apache Junction, take the tour around the Superstition Mountains, go on the little railraod ride at Goldmine, go horseback riding.Go up to Canyon Lake, take the scenic drive all the way up to the Dam! Make sure you are not afraid of heights, because the road goes from blacktop to dirt road, and I mean dirt road. But it's well, worth the drive. You will go past Canyon Lake,Apache Lake and onto many beautiful spots.Especially this one area, wheir people were camping right near the water. It was so pretty. As for eating, try Cobb's on the Apache Trail, and Coco's.Both have good food, and are easy on your wallet.Go to Arizona Mills, the shopping is great, plus they have this amazing hamburger joint called Johnny Rocket's, it is like the old tyme Soda shops.Food is splendid, and cheap!

Absolutely nothing! But it's probably my Southern Californian bias. It's too hot in Phoenix to do anything outdoors. We were there for a couple days last month, and there wasn't much as far as activities go. There is hardly any grass in Phoenix. Their yards are full of rocks instead of grass, because it's too expensive to maintain grass there. And people only live in Phoenix because it's very cheap.
However, because most things have to be done indoors in such a hot area, there are some relly good restaurants.
Are you driving? Be careful with where you park your car. Phoenix is well known for auto-theft. My brother went to school in Phoenix and his car was stolen after being in the lot for 5 minutes. All of his friends have had their cars stolen, a couple of them had them stolen twice.

personally, Donatello doesn't know what he's talking about. If you come in October weather should be in the 80s. It's NOT cheap to live here. We have one of the highest housing costs in the country. AND I happen to have nice trees and grass all over my yard

One of the best places to eat with a terrific scenic view is Rustlers' Roost on South Mountain. In Cave Creek there is a restaurant called the Horny Toad.

The best resturaunts are in Kierland (Scottsdale and Greenway road) and The Scottsdale Fashion Square (Scottsdale and Camelback) you can find any cuisine and most spots are great. Old Town Scottsdale night life is great for college/junior professionals and Kierland area and scottsdale and shea area is great for professional/thirtysomethings. The shopping at the fashion square is one of the best in the country. 1.5 hours north is Sedona which is one of the most beautiful places on earth. If you have time, it will make the trip the worthwhile.
Have fun

Take a day and drive two hours north to Sedona. It is the most beautiful place in the US. You would be missing something that you will never experience anywhere else if you don't check out Sedona.
If you have time check out Enchantment Resort. It is my favorite place in all of Sedona.
