If you have norton firewall, disable it, then try connecting. Otherwise, go to add/remove programs, look for norton internet security, click on remove or change if the option is there, you can uninstall the internet security only and leave the anti-virus on.

Windows firewall is all you need so don't worry about removing nortons version of internet security.

Good luck

Norton can be a bugger, especially their "SystemWorks" bundle. Uninstall it and go with another anti-virus program.

Nortons Suite, or any of Nortons products are the very worse software in the world. Each an every passing year they seem to put out a new program that is worse the previous versions.

Nine years ago when I was not very bright I let my computer engineer install Nortons. Never found one virus, plus there was always conflict with all of my other programs.

Just three months ago I asked my computer engineer to remove my Windows 2000 Server, because software is very hard to find for this platform. Asked him to install Windows XP Prof.

Told him please don't install Nortons as they are pure junk. Plus I use an antivirus program that the Government of China uses for the past nine years and never had one virus, trojan, malware.

Has usual he did not listen an installed Nortons. The moment I went onto the internet to install my free zone alarm firewall I was hit with trojans. Nortons found nothing, because their software does not no a virus if it see one.

This part you are going to really hate. When you remove Nortons from add/remove, you are left with over 300 fragments glued to all your files and hidden all over your system.

I actually believe that they know their software is expensive junk and they punish you when you remove the program, by leaving behind over 300 fragments that still cause conflict.

Go to start, search, search for files & open. Type in Symantec and scan. Try and remove all the left behind files that you can. Most of them will say, "unable to remove as file is being used".

Go to start, run, type in: c://program files, click on browse, click on program files & open. Look for Symantec, I doubt if it will allow you to remove as it will say the same, "file being used".

I have in my system from www.rosecitysoftware.com --Registry First Aid. This is not a free program, but you can download and during the evaluation period you should be able to remove all of the fragments. This registry first aid program I have used for nine years an I can assure you that it has never removed a registry key that is needed for your system to run.

You will see check marks when you click on "check for registry error. Only remove the ones that are checked next to the green box and the one next to the yellow box. If you are an expert you can remove the ones checked next to the red box. Actually there will be no harm if you leave the checked ones next to the red box.

Then click on the box "search for errors", type in Symantec & Norton seperate, so they come out on a seperate line & then run the scan. After the scan left click on every box that appears with Symantec or Nortons and use the drop down arrow on the right hand side to cut the string in the registry. To dangerous to remove them on a manual basis from your registry as you may remove the wrong keys & you will have to reformat you entire system. Registry First Aid backs up the registry before the scan & saves all the deleted registry keys that are bad.

You can find time with start, search & type in, "backups", system will scan & you will see "RFA", open & delete when you are you don't need them.

Now reboot your system and type in run; c://program files, browse, program open & look again for Symantec it should delete.

If you want an anti virus program that I use: check it out below:

Being a clinical psychiatrist I have a moral and legal obligation to keep my pc 100% clean from all virus/spyware/malware.

I tested every free and purchase antivirus system known. An I found only one that actually works 100%. Never had a virus or spyware in my system in nine years.

Go to, www.filseclab.com and download thier Twister AntiTrojan Virus program. (You will have to pay a small one time fee). You will never have to pay an annual fee for updates, support or new versions. The one time fee is for life. ($29.99)

The Government of China uses this antivirus program.

The software company is located in Beijing, China. They have excellent support, frequent large signature updates an as always all new versions are free. No annual fee for anything.

Comes with a real time scanner that really works. Actually I am quite amazed over the nine years how well it works.

Scans memory on startup.
Real time scanning in the background.
Open any webpage with an embedded trojan/spyware or malware and scanner will clean on the spot. An It is really removed from your system.

Download any kind of program from zips, software files, music, etc, etc, an if there is a hidden embedded trojan, spyware, malware, this program will stop the download and clean. An will advise you to end the download.

Will even find a virus in the installer wizard, like "Wise Installer". And will stop the installation while it is being installed and clean. Plus this program always will trace back who installed the trojan.

I had a trojan in and wizard installer. Twister caught the trojan and stopped the installation. I wrote the origianl company and told them the wizard installer had an embedded trojan to steal your data. The company now uses thier own installer.

You can't beat this software for a one time purchase fee only. Actually I don't know of any antivirus progam that even comes close to this state of the art technology.

All I can say it is worth the one time fee. Your pc cost alot of money and you don't want it destroyed. Plus your privacy is protected at all times.

There is nothing in it for me to praise this program. I tell it like it is. If it is crap then I will say so.

Please excuse my english grammer. Clinical psychiatrist from France.
