Check your tires and make sure they are properly inflated. Make sure you get your oil changed every 3,000-6,000 miles (depends on your driving habits and type of oil the car uses). Make sure your air filter is clean. Keep up on the cars regular maintance (02 sensor, spark plugs, etc.)

Your driving habits can change your gas mileage quite a bit. Slow down, don't accelerate too fast, coast on the way to a red light instead of racing up to it.

From AAA:

1. Get your car tuned up regularly to make sure that your spark plugs, oxygen sensor, and burn components are running correctly. Ragged running engines consume more fuel than correctly running engines.

2. Anticipate changes in traffic flow so you can ease into stops and starts. Steady speeds save gas; use cruise control when possible.

3. Read your owner's manual and only use premium gas if the manufacturer specifically calls for it. Some older cars may also need a gas upgrade. Also, if you have an older car and regularly hear a sound like marbles inside a tin can (especially when you accelerate or climb hills), try 89-octane mid-grade.

4. Check your tire pressure frequently. Once a week is ideal; once a month should be the minimum. Even tires only 4-5 psi below recommended inflation reduce mileage by 10%.

6. Don't store too much stuff in your trunk. Every 100 pounds of weight reduces fuel economy by 2%.

Happy driving!

make sure you have had a tuneup in the last 6 months, run at your cars best speed when possible (every car is different, mine is around 60-65)(figure that out with trial and error) make sure your air filter is clean, make sure you have a good clean fuel filter, check you tires for proper pressure (usually 35 PSI) keep your tires rotated and balanced. They also sell a thing called a tornado that you can put in your air intake that helps to mix your air and your fuel more properly, usually adds about 15 miles to the tank and increases your horsepower by 1 or 2 points.
