i'm 15wks and i've lost 7 pounds so far. i have no appetite and i'm sure i'm still not gaining any weight. i looked it up online and the websites said all women need to gain weight in pregnancy no matter if they are overweight or not.

i mentioned this to my doc and they blew me off, my mom warns that she gained 40lbs in pregnancy and never lost it. i think people are dismissing me because they see i'm overweight and ASSUME i'll gain more weight then i need to.

Loosing weight right now is very normal if you have had morning sickness and no appetite. I lost 5 pounds my first trimester. I did not start to gain weight till I was 4 months and then very slowly. I am also a bit overweight. The ideal would be between 15-25 pounds. I am 38 weeks and have put on 18 pounds. With my first pregnancy I put on 30 pounds and within 3 weeks I lost 35 pounds. Dont let someone elses weight gain nightmares worry you. Everyone is different. I know you appreciate your mom's knowledge and advice, but you are not the same person. I have also noticed from seeing my friends who are thin and get pregnant seem to gain the most weight. My one friend put on 85 pounds, my neighbor 75. Your body will put on enough to maintain the pregnancy. I have had some days when it just seems that I cant get enough to eat and did not exactly go to the kitchen and reach for the rice cakes, and it has not affected my weight. Sometimes I do use a bit of self control though. By the way I am also a person who has been paraniod about weight gain for this entire pregnancy. Just try to make smart choices when you can, but if the McDonald's cravings start to call, dont panic.

Don't feel bad about not gaining weight right now. With my first daughter I lost about 10 pounds until my 4th month and then at the 5 month visit I had put on 9 pounds, even though I hadn't changed how I ate, the morning sickness had just let up.

When you first started seeing your doctor did you ask about how much weight they wanted you to gain? I was 40 pounds overweight with my first and 30 pounds overweight with this baby and the doctors told me both times that 20 pounds of weight gain would be plenty. You can eat healthy and walk for exercise to keep from gaining too much weight, it doesn't matter how big you are to begin with.

Your doctor may not be concerned right now because they feel you are eating healthy and taking care of yourself. Even if you have no appetite, you should eat 3 meals a day, as healthy as possible, and healthy snacks if you feel hungry in between. You might not gain weight doing this, but as long as the baby is getting good nutrition and growing at a normal rate, it should be okay.

You're very early on in the pregnancy and you will gain weight as the baby grows. You'll gain the weight of the baby, the weight of the amniotic fluid and then probably a few more pounds of extra blood and fluids to support the baby. If you're still concerned, talk to your doctor. Don't let him/her blow you off. Tell them you are worried and keep telling them until they explain to you how to be healthy with this baby. Good luck.

Don't worry about the weight loss. When I first got pregnant I lost about 15-20 lbs before I started to gain weight. I'm also overweight. You will start to get your appetitee back later in pregnancy, so you will probably start to gain weight then. Also, morning sickness can play a part in it too. I'm not sure if you have morning sickness (or had it) but all that throwing up, and not eating can also make you lose some weight. Once the morning sickness stops, and your appetite increases you will gain some weight. I'm 6 1/2 months now, and I've gained all the weight back I lost already.

From my experience my doctor told me that as the baby gets bigger I would gain more weight. With both pregnancies I had horrible morning sickness and lost 45 lbs each time. I gained 25 pounds back by the time I was 8 months. I am currently expecting my third and so far no morning sickness.

During pregnancy your weight will change several times. The weight will come when it needs to. Don't worry to much about it. Not all women gain weight, all that matter is that the baby does.

A lot of overweight women lose weight in early pregnancy. I didn't gain any weight for the first few months myself and I wasn't overweight. As long as you are eating properly and taking your prenatal vitamins don't worry too much about it and give yourself undue stress. Also www.babycenter.com is a great online community you should definetly check it out! There are all sorts of women who are expecting when you are. Specifically the April 2007 board (I believe that's when you are due if you are 15 weeks) the link is: http://boards.babycenter.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?webtag=bcus1175

I was very overweight when I got pregnant...my Dr told me that I could only gain 10-15 lbs in my pregnancy. I watched everything I ate...drank water, and walked every day...I enede up losing 10 lbs during my whole pregnancy. I had a healthy 8lb 4 oz 24" long baby boy. My Dr was fine with the weight loss because the baby wasn't suffering. Even if you aern't hungry though you need to make sure that you are eating correctly. Don't worry what other people have to say...I had a perfectly healthy pregnancy, and did not gain weight. Just have open communication with your Dr

You really need to talk to your doctor about this. You might consider another dr. If you are already overweight, you shouldn't gain as much as you need to if you are not overweight. If you are having morning sickness, that might explain your weight loss, but during pregnancy is not the time to try to lose weight. Eat a healthy, well balanced diet, try to lay off the junk food. Exercise (like walking) is good for you, try not to worry about the weight. Don't forget to take your prenatal vitamins. Good luck.

It's perfectly normal. In my first trimester i kept losing weight and didn't gain a pound. I had terrible morning sickness and couldn't really keep anything down. In the second trimester i only gained 5 pounds. Now i'm in the third trimester and i've gained 30 pounds already.

So don't be worried about how much weight you gain or lose. Your baby takes all the nutrients it needs before you get yours. Just make sure you are eating and taking your prenatal vitamins. So long as you do that, you and your baby will be healthy.

It is actually not entirely abnormal to lose weight at the beginning of a pregnancy. Since you have just become aware that you are eating for the formation of a healthy baby, you may have changed your eating habits to reflect that. So, perhaps you are eating more healthily than normal. You can't forget that you may also be shedding water weight, another side effect of eating more healthily.
As long as you are managing your protein and calcium intake properly, taking prenatal vitamins, and staying with the healthy foods, you are actually on a good path. Staying aware of your health is very practical. It's very good that you are concerned for yours and baby's health!
Good luck with the new little one!

It's true that you can not gain weight or lose weight if your overweight and pregnant. Say if you are nauseous and have lost your appetite, you won't eat as much, therefore your body lives off the stored fat that you have. Just try and get some protein, very important.
