A famous quote says, "Aim for the moon, and even if you miss, you will land among the stars." Goals, even unrealistic ones, are what makes the world go around. Where would we be if people didn't pursue because they were told it was unrealistic. I encourage everyones dreams, because who know, they may actually achieve them.

Realism is a matter of opinion. Besides,it's better to pursue unrealistic goals than no goals at all.

Where is anyone without hopes and dreams even if they are unrealistic. Pursuit is a state of need, want and desire. What's wrong with that? Some folks dreams, hopes, etc, may be higher than someone elses, and even if the goal is only 3/4 of the way accomplished, it is better than nothing and at least they tried, even if they damn near killed themself trying.......

Well, just for the fun of it.
Seriously, no person would ever pursue a goal if he knows it will not be realized. People dreams and strongly believes it will come true. So, on the part of the dreamer, no dream or goal is not realistic.

Because if you were to only pursue goals for yourself that were realistic, you would never achieve the amazing, only the average or the expected. Greatness comes from making yourself do more than you or anyone else thinks you can do.

In early 1903 the NY Times newspaper published an article that PROVED that it would be impossible to have heavier than air flight. A few months later, two brothers from Ohio proved them wrong.
What makes you or anyone else say that goals are unrealistic.
Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp - or what's a heaven for? ~ Robert Browning

If ones goals were so easily attained, would one really feel like they have accomplished something of importance?
The harder ones goals, the more satisfaction you should receive when that goal is attained. If you set the goals low and simple, doing them won't bring that large of a satisfaction.
If someone were to have a problem keeping their goals, perhaps setting some easier ones would help them learn to achieve goals.

That's a relative question, what may be unrealistic to you may be quite realistic in the mind of the pursuer....
