Nice question. The answer is of course yes. After all, it is two similar electronic devices. But whether it is practical..., very unlikely.

You should be able to reuse the case, the display, the keyboard, much of the smartphone functionality like MP3 players, video cameras etc. You would not be able to reuse the antenna definitely. Since most manufacturers tend to manufacture multifunctional chips, you are likely to end up having to replace the chip and motherboard as well.

May be it can be attempted as a costly hobby but wouldn't be wise if you plan to save some money by converting your old cdma phone to a gsm one.

HTH.

If you change your question to if it´s possible to use your GSM account with a CDMA phone... the answer is YES.
Here in Baja California we have a plant that buys trailers full of CDMA phones and refurbish them and sends them back to be sold as prepaid phones and give away at the shady service providers. The phones are also sold here in Mexico even though we only have one CDMA service provider. BUT we have a guy here that flashes the phone switching the CDMA ROM for a ROM used in a GSM phone. He then uses the GSM parameters and dials them in manually. Sounds complicated but it´s very simple. If it was allowed to upload photos on here I could of uploaded screenshots of the phone. If interested in the photos send your email.

LoL Ajay, r u also one of us who bought RIM handsets for 500 rupees and now trying to get it into GSM??? I asked, coz I too did the same when RIM launched it's services - got a Reliance Samsung N-191, and after using it *free* ;-) for about 4 months, tried to get it off to GSM. Went to a lot of "cons", but no one could do it, and finally one person who said he'd do it asked me 2000 bucks for it! So I had no way had to dispose it off. The finale : Yes, you can convert CDMA to GSM, but that amounts to putting an entirely new phone in an old body !

No dude you can't convert CDMA phones in to GSM
because they use different technology
CDMA means code division multiple access
and GSM means global system for mobile

eg:why reliance and tata providing phones with no Sim
because they use cdma technology they are programed inside
to user their respective network.
while gsm phones relay upon the programed Sim module to
chive this.

No GSM phones use a different bandwidth and use SIM cards to store phone numbers and contact details, in CDMA phones there is no SIM card and they have an internal memory.

No because CDMA uses different techology. GSM has a SIM card which you can put into ANY unlocked phones and you can use it! A CDMA phone, you must go to ur provider in order u can change a phone!

no? you can not change CDMA phones to GMS, coz it based on 2 different technologies. GSM phone have sim card facility so that you can choose network operators options. so in that if change sim card your number get change. But in CDMA your number can not change coz network provider adds number in handset which you have select. According to knowledge if you want change/upgrade handset it takes 24/48 hrs time to start services in your new handset.
