Only CD-RWs can be erased not CD-Rs

Writeable CDs are of two types CD-R and CD-RW. CD-R is write once type. Effectively once you have burnt the CD you cannot re-record. CD-RW is re-writable. You can essentially overwrite data.

Many of the burners support what is called a multi-session format. What that means is that you can write it multiple times on CD-Rs. However, the idea here is that the data is not getting overwritten. Probably you burned data worth 100MB first time around. You can use it to read the data in drives that support multi-session CDs. You can at a later point of time burn in another 50 MB. You lose some space in doing so. Essentially you would have used up more than 150 MB in the above case. You may not be able to play these CDs directly in CD Players or older CD drives. However there is another operation called finalising of a multi session CD (this too requires some free space) which will make it like a normal recorded CD that can be played in CD-R compatible CD players and older CDROM drives.

Many drives can erase selective data in CD-Rs but then you can't of-course use that area again, basically it is lost.

HTH.

I didnt' think it was possible to erase songs off of a cd that has been burned, unless maybe rewritable cds can. but I don't think so. Just try it and you will find out for yourself.

I would think the only way you could that was if the CD was a rewritable one.

If the CD says CD-RW on it you can copy over it. If it says CD-R you cannot. CD-RW's are rewritable CD's
