Get some pathos plants. Best plant for putting oxygen into the air. They even used them in the greenhouse scene in that movie Mission to Mars. They are recommended for asthma sufferers and practically impossible to kill.

There are numerous air purifiers available. Do an internet search and research it for the type best for you. An ionizer will cause particulates to drop from the air and collect on surfaces in rooms they are in, so you'll need to clean surfaces if you use an ionizer. The best purifiers are the ones that have filters and a part you pull out and wipe clean. The good ones cost up to $400, but if you live where winter temps are below zero, opening a window isn't an option. Opening a window is also not an option if you live where the wind blows lots of dust into you house through an open window. Plants are good, but if you don't have time to care for them don't bother. And mold can grow in plant soil which can add to air quality problems.

Plants will help alot.
Crack the window, briefly (30 mins) to create a draft. Leave a door open as well while you are doing it.
Vaccuum the floors, curtains, furniture.

I think you mean aerate...there isn't much you can do except to open a window. Open it for 15-20mins then close it again.
