you can have up to 5 oz of crabmeat. I've heard from my doctor that you can eat fish but in moderation. This link has some great info on it.

Hopefully this will answer your question...

Imitation crab meat is most commonly prepared from surimi, which is a product created by processing fish. Basically, surimi is the substance that remains when you really grind fish - to be specific surimi is primarily myofibrillar proteins.

Surimi can be produced using just about any kind of fish, and as you might imagine, the key motive to selecting a fish to be used to make imitation crab is that the fish be widely available and cheap. In fact, the most common surimi used in the manufacture of imitation crab are created from walleye and/or Alaska pollock.

As far as the connection between imitation crab and pregnancy, then, the news is good - pollock has been identified as one of THE safest fish for pregnant women to eat. This is because pollock is an extremely low-fat fish (less than 2% oil) - mercury and other unhealthy substances are stored (and found) in the fatty tissues of captured fish. Because pollock has little fat, there is a low risk of significant mercury concentrations.

I've added two useful references below - I hope this helps!

Apparently there have been known instances of sickness while eating imitation crab:

There were two incidents where L. monocytogenes type 1 was isolated from ready to eat products in which bioluminescent bacteria were also detected. These seafood products were imitation crabmeat purchased in Edmond, Oklahoma in 1991 and imitation lobster meat purchased in Chicago, Illinois in 1992. The consumers experienced stomach cramps, diarrhea and headache. Since the consumers in the first instance did not go to a doctor and no pathogen was isolated from the second consumer, there was no evidence that L. monocytogenes isolated from the seafood products was causing the illnesses. However, L. monocytogenes is a pathogen, that can produce flu like symptoms, abortions in pregnant women, meningitis, septicemia, endocarditis, primary bacteremia, or death in immunocompromised people with AIDS or cancer (4).

In some Asian countries it really is all those woman devour is fish. i'm not too positive about caviar yet i did not take heed to maintain away from it so I say bypass for it. sturdy success;)

crab meat is fine
You can eat fish, but not on a daily basis. Bad fish are the bottom feeders - more prone to mercury.
The fish that should not be eaten during pregnancy, according to the FDA, include:

Shark
Swordfish
King mackerel
Tilefish

It's OK to eat imitation crab meat. It's actually made from whitefish. The fish they suggest you don't eat is the fish with possible high mercury content, like shark..

Ewww.... why would you want that when there are so many different cheeses to choose from? Instead of worrying about, just chuck the crab out the window and sit down to a nice plate of swiss or edam.
