Does anyone know how this show really works?
I'm not entirely convinced they actually give up everything from their wardrobe. Has anyone else noticed that on the show the people have like a double walk-in closet of clothes at home in the opening footage (where their family/friends are showing off all the cr*p clothes they've got) and when they pack up their stuff and go to the show they only have like 2 racks? What's up with that?
Do you think they're really giving up their WHOLE old wardrobe?

On one episode I saw them let someone shop at an outlet because she was going into sticker shock. It was sure weird to see Stacy and Clinton there though!!

My niece was on this show. What they had her do was bring a bulk of her clothes, and they did throw them away. She kept certain items she really liked, and brought with her the clothes that friends and family had a real problem with. But they don't take everything.
If it goes on the show though, it DOES go in the trash. But seriously, they only have a rack or two usually, and I would think this isn't ALL of anyone's wardrobe.

I hope not. Because on that stupid show, they only give you $5000 for a whole new wardrobe. And then they make you buy a $3000 pair of boots. So then what, you're supposed to walk around naked after you rebel against wearing them?
Yeah, if I went on that show, I'd save at least half of my old wardrobe too.

In some of the wardrobes shown on the series I think it is a blessing to fling everything out.
However everybody has a fave piece that no-one would make them part with - mine is an old sweatshirt and joggers that only comes out when I feel ill or dead tired and am having a "sofa day" - they would need to prise it off of me with a crowbar - lol

The episodes where Stacy and Clinton go too the person's home they often leave the pieces that are good and still workable. I think only the worst of the worst gets thrown into the trashcan....but I also heard that the clothes that are in good condition are donated to women's shelters.

Actually, I have seen some clothes left on the racks from time to time, so they do not get rid of everything they take to the studio.

Heck no! I just don't get why people bring the stuff they are traumatized over having to throw away (in the ridiculously small trash can).
