no masochists like to feel physical pain denying themselves this would be psychological pain so they would not do it best by not torturing themselves

yeah, but in their twisted little minds masochists already feel miserable even if they're not always aware of it. so if nothing does the trick for them to feel better about themselves they try a different type of pain to destract them from the first one and so they come to think they feel better. There's a saying for that in my country but i can't really translate it, sorry. that's my opinion anyway
