Both the far right and far left nutcases target the same posters here, accusing us of being what they are not. If you post an answer that goes against the liberal mind set you’re called neo-com. If you say Bush lied you’re called a commie liberal. I’ve been accused of being both a liberal and a conservative.

Can’t these nutcases understand that Republicans CAN dislike Bush and Democrats CAN dislike welfare or Kerry? Why does everything have to be cut and dry or black and white with these fanatics?

Rational, intelligent debate requires energy. Thought and work have never been popular with zealots of any kind, be they religious, political or otherwise. It is much easier to demonize an opponent by categorizing them and listing each of their attributes that conflict with yours, then your followers will have a harder time seeing similarities and perhaps coming together in the middle. Centrists are often called fence-sitters, I think they are the thinkers.

The underlying "logic" or principle at work is that they are right and anyone who doesn't say exactly what they want to hear is wrong.

It's sad to see insults and slanted questions ("Is Bush the biggest moron ever" or "why are all liberals stupid" etc.) posted by either side. I usually just pass those questions by.

What I find particularly galling is the belief that anyone with an opposing point of view is brainwashed, a parrot, paid off, etc. I don't have to agree with someone's point of view to UNDERSTAND it. For example, liberals tend to see government as protecting "the little guy" against "big business," while conservatives worry about "big government" encroaching on the freedom of the "small businessman." You don't have to believe that someone is in the pocket of CEOs or unions to understand that they feel as they do, even if you disagree.

Also, there seem to be the complaints about personal insults, posted by people who are themselves insulting. I have examples - not you - in mind, but I'm not going to get sucked into a personal beef.

Yes, I wish people would at least try to be intellectually honest. Sometimes I'm flippant or whatever, but I try to call a spade a spade.

I hope my halo isn't blinding you! :)

To each his own . . .

The comment about "targeting the same posters" is right on.

Some questioners (you know who you are) revel in the loyal attention from their sycophant groupies. Sprinkle in some outraged disagreement and you have what often passes for "debate" here on YA.

This happens on BOTH sides of the fence.

Trouble is, the posters who toss up these softball pseudo-questions have no idea what's going on. They think that because the majority of answers they get are in passionate agreement that the whole world agrees with them.

They don't... most of us just don't want to waste our time trying to inject reasoned thinking into a high school taunting contest.

Once again...if you’re reading this, you know who you are. (you already replied).
