Warmer air rises towards the ceiling of a room. This is due to the fact that warmer air as a gass is less dense when heated than when it is cold. So the colder air falls to the bottom and the warmer air rises.
For your science experiment, it will depend upon the size and heating of the room in question. A relatively small room may not ahve much of a thermal difference between the top and the bottom. The temperatire may also be affected by drafts or other outside factors. The room may not be sealed and the hotter air may escape. Also if doors and windows are open, then the air in the room is likely to be circulated and this may result in false or uneven readings.

Well, heat rises. But, if you have a fan in the room, the air will probably be the same temperature throughout. Try using a room that has very little air flow and moving the thermometer to the extreme bottom and extreme top of the room. Good luck!

Hot air rises and cold air falls. Floor is cooler than ceiling.
Try leaving the thermometer at each level a little longer so it can get a correct reading.

I'm not sure but hot air is supposed to rise so you would expect the cold air to be at the bottom of the room and the warm air at the top. However the change may not be significant enough to be detected by the thermometer. :)

Heat rises pushing cold air down.
Where are your registers in your room (heat/airconditioning)?
To get an accurate reading you need to turn your thermostat off so there is no air circulating in your home.
Perhaps you need a more sensitive thermometer or there is no difference in the temp. Experiments can have a "no change" as the answer.

i imagine i'd recognize what you're asking. you've major air and warm temperature gadget and also Ceiling followers the ac works ok in spite of the undeniable fact that the nice and cozy temperature does not because warmth rises so your rooms proceed to be chilly. If it really is authentic ... there's a swap on your ceiling followers to regulate the direction that they turn. One direction contained in the summer season is to tug air up and the different direction for the iciness is to push the nice and cozy temperature air down. also make positive your filters are sparkling on your unit. ok thanks for clarifying that about your venting. Your impressive guess is to get truthfully ceiling followers then and save them on low in the time of iciness . once you position the swap to push air down this is going to artwork wonders for you and your heating bill. this is going to also forestall contained in the summer season once you turn them to tug the nice and cozy air up contained in the summer season. it really is likewise very acceptable to a house customer if or once you ever promote your position.
