i cant understand what do u mean by opposite exactly !!! some said coal !! but coal is not a minerla bcoz minerlas are non-organic matters while coal is organic !!! i go with graphite .. both are made of carbon .. Graphite is opaque and metallic- to earthy-looking, whereas, diamonds are transparent and brilliant . Another important physical difference is their hardness. Graphite is very soft and has a hardness of 1 to 2 on this scale. Diamonds are the hardest known natural substance and have a hardness of 10. The crystal structure of graphite yields physical properties that permit the use of graphite as a lubricant and as pencil "lead". The gem and industrial properties of diamond, physical properties that we cherish and exploit, are also a result of diamond's crystal structure.

Talc is the softest mineral.

However; if you want to stay in the same composition, Carbon, I would go with graphite, and not for the reason stated above.

The crystal structure of a diamond has carbon atoms about as tightly packed as physics will allow. Tremendous pressure and heat are required to achieve this.

Graphite, on the other hand, the carbon atoms bond in sheets. The carbon sheets cannot hold structure very well and will slide on each other. This is what gives graphite its slippery feel and makes it an excellent dry lubricant.

I'd go with graphite.

Both diamonds and graphite have the same chemical composition (they are both carbon.) The only difference lies in the method in which they are formed. Diamonds are formed deep in the earth under extreme temperatures and pressure, whereas graphite is formed at the surface of the Earth.

Diamond is the hardest mineral.

Talc is the softest mineral on Earth. Moh's scale of hardness uses talc as its starting-point, with a value of 1.00. The mineral is so soft it can be scratched very easily by a fingernail. Talc is an ingredient of soap, chalk and, of course, talcum powder. Blocks of impure talc are known as soapstone.

No mineral has characteristics which are "opposite" to any other mineral, they can only be different. Diamond is :- Crystalline, solid, non-metallic, an element and very hard. Mercury is :- Liquid, non-crystalline, a metallic element and very soft.

I'm not sure, but I think Carbon is opposite of a diamond

If you mean with the same chemical composition ( i.e. carbon) the answer is graphite because it is very soft.

I appear to have given everyone the idea "Ah graphite! "

Which character : hardness or clarity ?
talc is the opposite in hardness but in clarity it could be coal .

I'm not sure what you mean by opposite. If you mean hardness you'll have to check to be sure but my best guess is talk or gypsum.
