I used to be a big fan of DC's John Constantine series and the character in general. I dimly recall that there was a series in which Constantine had to shepherd around a young boy magician with glasses, who looked a lot like Harry Potter, but this was well before Harry Potter was published. Later, when Harry Potter came out, I remember thinking that the character seemed identical to the boy in the DC series. Does anyone else remember this?

J.K Rowling is an over rated no body who struck it lucky by bringing out a series of books during a period of stupidity by the public.....what's all the screaming about when people se her on the street? Stephen King never had that problem.

Yes, I actually still have the comics. During the series "The Books of Magic" John Constantine, Phantom Stranger and I believe Dr. Occult? as well as another member of the "trenchcoat brigade" sought out young Timothy Hunter, who could potentially be the most powerful magic user during this age. They wanted to teach him and watch over him so that he would not be tempted to use his abilities for evil. They have recently been using this character in "The Books of Magic:Life During Wartime" - which takes place in an alternate reality created by Timothy Hunter, where he is worshipped as a god. Talk about powerful...

Yes, Timothy Hunter. He has his own comic series now The Books of Magic which is great you should check it out. He's not much like Harry Potter though, although I agree they do kind of look alike.

Yoy're thinking of Tim Hunter who was in "The Books Of Magic" initially a mini series by Neil Gaiman, then in an ongoing series (now sadly ended)
