It depends on when you actually conceived. If your doc has done an ultrasound and determined your due date is acurate, then they will only let you go 2 weeks past the due date. Because of the added dangers. Such as the placenta deteriorating. They will usually schedule an induction if you are closing to the 2 week cut off.

No. If your doctor gives you a due date, they don't like to go 2 weeks past the due date. The longer the baby is in there, the more harm it's doing on you and/or the baby as the baby will start having bowel movements inside of you.

Yes. My second child was a month overdue when he was finally born. I remember asking my doctor about inducing labor at each of my last few appointments. His response was always "Let's wait one more week." Sigh. I guess he just believed in letting nature take its course. He was an older doctor and was probably old enough to be retired back then.
That was nearly 12 years ago. When I was pregnant with my third child, born just 6 months ago, I told my doctor about that and she said she'd never let me go that long and didn't know of any doctors nowadays that would.

I have never heard of a dr letting someone go that late. 2 weeks is the longest that I have heard. Any later I would think would be dangerous and the placenta will age and stop nourishing the baby. I was induced on my due date and already had some concerning calcium spots on my placenta that concerned me OB.

My first was a 10 month baby. I was in the care of an infertility specialist so we knew the conception date to the hour. My due date was Feb. 14th and he was born (induced) March 10th. My ob-gyn said that usually, they just put it down to a mix up in the conception dates and mine was the first 10 monther he actually knew to be that late.
My second baby was 3 weeks late... both were healthy and beautiful :)

Yes it is. Do an internet search and you will find all sorts of 10 month mama pages on the internet. I personally had a friend who delivered at 43.5 weeks with her 5th baby.
The danger lies in placental deterioration. There is a body of evidence that suggests that the placenta starts to break down after 42 weeks. In my friends case, she wanted nature to take its course and had an ultrasound and regular stress tests to check if baby was happy and the placenta was functioning well.
It was so she had the ok to go longer.

Yes, my mom was a month late with me. I was supposed to be due May 21st, but I wasn't born until June 20th! Now days though, they usually don't let you go that far overdue, they will most likely induce your labor.

Yes, there is such a thing as a 10 month baby. I know from personal experience, my boss' wife from a former job had it happen to her, she delivered a normal, healthy child almost exactly one month after her due date.
It's not the norm but it's not extremely rare either.
