I thought it was funny when Mickey Mouse dressed up in an Agrippina costume.
Grandma liked it, too.

I think it wasn't funnier than your whole life. That is: being the son of a meaningless figure head in the process of being a non-entity.
Hi**t**ler on the other hand, was really someone, who did something, whether right or wrong, amounted to some extent.
So seeing you, being the son of a meaningless figure head heir to an obsolote title, dressed up like someone didn't really bother me. It even looked like you were aspiring to be someone in your own little pathetic way.
And somehow you even failed at that.
(by the way: I remember Chaplin in Great Dictator dressed up like Hitler too. Was that supposed to be "tasteless" too? In a party where everyone else is some kind of monster, Hitler doesn't seem to out of place.)

Try dressing up as Sadaam and walk through Fort Bragg or Arlington. You get what you deserve.
