My son started teething at the same time. Of course she is doing a great thing with the Tylenol. Has she tried baby Oragel? That numbs baby's gums and makes them feel much better. While he was teething, I would give brush his gums (just to get in the habit) with baby Oragel tooth paste. It's like two dollars at Wal-Mart. I would put the Oragel on his teeth and I would give him Tylenol before he went to bed. Anytime he woke up I would put more Oragel on his teeth. It made both my son and I sleep better at night. I hope this helps! It's a hard time--but luckily since he started early--it won't last as long. Best of Luck to you and your friend!

Hello! I am a mom of 4 and when tylenol and teething rings dont work I pull out the ambesol or some oragel. You can buy it over the counter and it is a numbing medicine specifically for teething.
Sometimes though, the numbing feeling may bother the baby and he may fuss because he doesnt like it. Every baby is different.
It also could very well be that the baby wants to be comforted by the mother and that the tylenol is working. When my first son cried, I would immediately comfort him and help soothe him back to sleep. However, because I did that I prevented him from learning how to soothe himself and fall asleep. My 2nd, 3rd, & 4th child I did not come right away. Many times their crying would release any built up energy they had and they would fall asleep on their own.
I am sure that the tylenol is working to some extent and you dont want to over-medicate. You can try a little of the ambesol to see how he feels.
All in all, the 1st teething is always the hardest because they are so young. As they get older, they still feel the discomfort but some babies seem to overcome quicker by getting distracted with toys, etc.
Hope this helps a little =)

First off frozen or very cold things may seem to help because it will numb the gums a bit, but when the feeling comes back it will hurt more than it did befor at times. ***Careful with the Oragel ladies, it can be toxic, if used to often or to much it can affect more than the gums!!! That is what the pedi. told me when mine were teething. I was also told to get a q-tip dip it in Benadryl and rub it on the gums. (Use the dye-free one in case you may have a child alleregic to the dye!) You can give them tylenol(or Motrin) the teething tablets Good Luck and Have a Great Day!

I had the same problem with my son when he was almost 5 months old. Baby oragel would not work, tylenol didn't seem to help much either... I bought Hyland's Teething Tablets. They sell them at walmart, some local pharmacies as well. Dissolve 2 or 3 on the baby's tongue or put in a bottle with a small amount of formula or water or juice and see if that helps. It sure helped with my son!

Frozen bagels or buy the pouches with handles used for babies. Place an ice cube in the pouch and have them suck on that. You can get them at Target. They snap shut and are made of a netting material so baby doesn't choke on what ever is in the pouch. They work great for smaller pieces of fruit with juices (watermelon, oranges) that baby can suck on. I heard Ambesol (sp?) works better than Orajel, you could try them both. Be careful how much and how often Tylenol is given to the baby. And it just takes time before that tooth pops thru and baby will be happy again...until the next tooth!

I have the same situation going on and my son is 4.5months old...He is teething and drooling like crazy. I put Orajel on his gums every night right before bed and it seems to do the trick. I would also suggest teething tablets. I have a friend whose baby hated the Orajel and the teething tablets do the trick. You can find them at Wal-mart in the baby section. You put them in the baby's mouth and they dissolve. They help with the pain and have a calming affect as well... Good luck!

There's really nothing you can do except rule out other possiblilties. Teething can cause ear infections. Try brushing his gums or giving him a rounded baby toothbrush to chew on. It will massage his gums and remove any plaque that may have built up on them. If the tylenol isn't working, I would go to the Dr to make sure it isn't something else.

Frozen bagel - give it to him to gnaw on. The cold will soothe his gums.

Make sure she's giving him enough Tylenol - at his age they're dosed by weight, so if he's getting underdosed, it won't be as effective.

motrin works a lot better and is better for children to. I used to used frozen waffles. I don't know if this child uses a binky or not but they sell teething binkies that have little grooves and bumps on them, thats what I gave to my baby when she would go to sleep. She loved them and it worked to.
