This character collected various magic ingredients outside the one main city in his search to remove the "curse" on him. I can remember the name of only one character called "Scotia". There were several different "regions" one was volcanic, one a monastary that had ghosts when you went into a hidden maze. There was a "Briar or Thorn thicket" maze where at the back you went below ground and had to destroy several monsters where I believe the main one was "spiderlike" and then free a captive child. One place was a warehouse area with docks outside. Almost all these regions were accessed when you left the main city and traveled through a jungle and a river several bridges also in a maze format. There was a castle in the main town that was in a maze / puzzle format where he had to gather hints, it also had a "picture gallery" that told some of the hisrory of the kingdom as well as about some of his ancestors. This game was from back in the late "90s". This is all I can remember now

Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny, I think. Luther is the son of Scotia, and is cursed to randomly turn into a monster. It was circa 1996 or 1997, so it hits your timeframe just right.

Your question is resembling the on-going conflict between "salvation" and "works" it extremely is what separates an impressive many sects of Christianity. yet what separates "believers" from "non-believers" as much as now as entering into Heaven is that BELIEVERS sense that they've EARNED it and does no longer choose to share it with somebody who did no longer. as a fashion to respond to your question it extremely is that "earning" heaven the two via works, salvation, or the two that makes Heaven an unique club for believers. what's the factor in having religions if every person can get into the rustic club?
