I am not a smoker, but here in NJ smoking is now banned in most public places. And I think that is the way it should be.

Smokers, try to comprehend this. People are not causing a problem for others by wanting to breathe clean air. Smokers are causing a problem by putting filth into the air that would not be there if they were not smoking.

Edit: Yes - cars do pollute also, but a lot of people NEED their car to get to and from work. Not every place has good public transportation available, and buses, etc do not go to all places. Smoking, however, is NOT a necessity to anything. It's just a crutch for the pathetically weak.

I am a smoker (trying to quit) in the state of California.

I'm opposed to banning smoking in SOME public places, but strongly in support of others.

Stores, Theaters, Bus & Train Stations... yes, ban smoking there!

Resturants and Airports... I think most are large enough to have designated smoking sections. Smaller resturants should be able to decide for themselves (We are a smoking establishment).

Bars & Pubs... same thought: the owner should decide whether or not they will permit smoking... based on THEIR clientel

California voters passed a law a few years back banning smoking in bars, clubs, & nightclubs... GREAT commercials from the "anti-smoking" side... pitiful looking beautiful waitresses claiming that they hated smoke.

The commercials were noted as paid for by a group: "California Union of Waiters, Waitresses and Bartenders against secondhand smoke"... the group was actually a well known anti-smoking lobby who just found a nice name to go with the commercial.

Just a note... enforcement of that ban has been almost IMPOSSIBLE.

Oh, and for those who say that smoking should be banned OUTSIDE because smokers pollute the air... I certainly HOPE that you aren't driving a car... or flying... or using any products that are transported in that fashion...because you're obviously polluting MY air ;)

Thank YOU for a nice question, and for your request to keep in courteous... nice change from some of the rants here !

I am not a smoker but I do inhale way too much cigarette smoke. I believe that smoking should be banned in all public places but indoor and outdoor. As it is most states already have some bans on smoking. Many ban smoking in public buildings, my state is currently trying to pass legislation that will prohibit smoking in public parks and shopping centers. Some people here also want to prohibit smoking in your own car if children are present.

I smoke. I do not think it should be banned in public places, because they are public. I agree with the ban on smoking in restrauants because that is private and they have the right to refuse service to anyone. but i want to be able to walk on a public side walk and be able to have a smoke. I also have to agree with the can not smoke with in some many feet of a park that is cool but i think the parking lot should be the smoking area that way you can still watch you kids. I think there needs to be a limit you can not ban it everywhere. I am respectfull about smoking as much as possible i try to make sure there is not any one down wind that i am not blowing smoke in someones face, My friends dont smoke so i dont smoke in the car when they are with me. if smokers were more respectfull about it i dont think there would be as many problems

at the same time as I know the prejudice to people who smoke, i could say as an asthmatic and a non-smoker that I help the ban in some public places. i'm from the U. S. (don't be responsive to in case you're conversing relating to the united kingdom), so right here one won't be able to smoke in eating places, in some bars on the discretion of the owner, and interior of 20ft of a public construction. i individually locate it sensible. at the same time as I comprehend it is an habit, i've got confidence that the extra obstacles placed on people who smoke the extra useful. it is like letting an alcoholic drink and be rowdy anyplace they are, they are going to for sure concern somebody with their habit as they're going to result others around them. Smoking is starting to be extra taboo because of the fact anybody is stricken by utilising it. Frankly it stinks and it is an rather unattractive and undesirable habit. The extra lives we are able to save by utilising banning it the extra useful. Lung maximum cancers is a poor project to stay via because it oral maximum cancers, emphasema, and protracted bronchitis. i've got watched family contributors go through for the period of the unfavorable effects of smoking and it is unneccessary to die earlier a while in straightforward terms for a stupid ciggarette.
