business norm in the US is 2 weeks vacation per year, after you've worked a year. Then, this generally gets bumped to 3 weeks after 5 years. 4 weeks doesn't usually come until 15 years, but some companies offer it at 10 years... or not at all.

The car business, however, has traditionally been one that doesn't treat their employees all that well.

Sounds kind of fishy to me. Law firms around here give their employees three weeks paid vacation per year maximum, and you usually only have to be there for five years to get that. Now, that vacation policy may be a part of your contract, but there's no rule that says you can't request vacation time without pay. Kind of sucks though...heck, I work for Club Fed and I get four weeks paid vacation per year.
