I find that I work very hard for 2 days, then hit burnout and just don't want to get anything done. I am in a bad cycle of work work hard then crash crash hard.

A job requires motivation, a life’s calling doesn’t.

How about finding a job that inspires you everyday, and jumps start you every morning just by the thought of it? That would be your life's calling and that is very different from a safe job that would give security and comfort but little soul gratification, and without it how long can you push yourself, away from your life's calling.

Depends on what you do, but I always tried to come up with ideas for improvements to how I did my job. I love being innovative. I could do twice as much as anyone else because I only did what was necessary and avoided busy work.

Try to make work "fun". Play a speed contest with your co-workers to see who gets the project done first... or listen to some music that best fits your mood... or probably play a prank on your boss to see if he/she has a good sense of humor.

To love what you do or to find a meaning for what you are doing...why is it useful? who are you helping? who would be affected if you don't do what you are supposed to be doing? I find that all of this helps, it makes you value your job and stay motivated.

*make a THINGS TO GET DONE list.
*list most important projects first.
*cross off the tasks you've finished - that's the part that makes you feel like you've accomplished something and makes you feel paycheck worthy.
*don't open your personal email until you get to the "STUFF I CAN DO TOMORROW" list.

believe in work is your motivation. think about Bhagavad Gita where Arjuna diverted his mind to other aspects other than his duty, lord Sri KRISHNA motivated by his preachings to go for his duty. he realized and fought. finally victory. so have that spirit in your duty. do your duty, that is final.
