I was trying to address the problem conservatives and liberals only believing there own media because the story each side is telling is so vastly diffrent, so each side's media isn't believed whatsoever by the other side.

I understand your point fully and that is why I only watch PBS news. I watch The Newshour, Frontline, Charlie Rose, Wideangle, The McLaughlin Group and Washington Week. Sometimes Tavis Smiley but he does tend to lean left.

I can honestly say that PBS is outstanding when it comes to reporting the facts neutrally. I like to be able to make up my own mind on issues.

As far as your statement, I find it very sad that the media is allowed to distort things to the degree they do.

I have a republican friend I met here that emails me. He is a big PBS watcher like I am and we actually discuss shows and don't argue at all. We both respect each others points of view because we both know we got them from a reliable source.

You see it is like this:
I will respect that a person disagrees with me with no argument whatsoever as long as I know they based their choices on truth. If they know the truth about issues and then choose to have a different stance then I have no problem and we are usually very good friends.

Even assuming there is such a thing as "the main stream", trying to define on specific collection of ideas as the single dominant culture is precisely the problem, here and overseas.

As long as the goal is to have everything be "mainstream", there will always be prejudice and hatred of those who are different. Which will never lead to any type of credibility.

And the fact that you said "both parties", implying that there are only two that should could, just reinforces the danger of that model.
