Sometimes people are talking about creative people bipolar traits when they say this.

However, not all creative people are bipolar. not all smart people are insane.

The main thing is that anyone who is highly smart or highly creative will see things differently than a duller person and the duller person may even see the smart/creative one's actions as "mad". Martin Luther King Jr.'s relatives probably he was crazy for putting himself and his followers in harm's way to make a point. Einstein was so focused he was good at math and bad at about everything else, so he didn't have good hygiene.

The definition of madness is quite a blurred one itself: it's not necessarily that someone schizophrenic is also genius. However, humans whose intelligence is average or below average may consider a person with genius type of intelligence to be as strange as a schizophrenic person, because the occurances of genius people are comparatively (similarly) rare. I also suspect that the attitude of society to genius people exacerbates their strangeness, and may cause some kind of psychological change in them as it is not easy to live knowing that everybody thinks you are mad.

So, in fact it is a myth, because it is a common opinion of common people, which has been around for quite a long time.

OMG roflmaopimp!! i could inform my brother you may checklist some thing for the blow up doll to declare. He says he's starting to be bored cuz she basically lays there. lower back on your question however. i do no longer think of there's a line in any respect, except it is imaginary/invisible, like those between the states on the map. it is all a remember of concept. some could think of you're mad, yet as you reported...your better half looks to think of you're genius. :o) Have a great day Wil!

No its a fine line in most cases.

It is what we see as a society that we see as acceptable.

Some people can really think outside of the box and apply new unthought of sets of rules to the things we take for granted.

That does not make society right and if the perputrator of the new thoughts can from there on only see what they thought as being right, it is very hard for them to think differently. The crux is that most of us build our logic on historical ideas we think are facts, trying to change society to see your genius is almost impossible. So society thinks you are mad to persue your line of thoughts and corresponding actions. That is of course if you are clever enough to express your thoughts to the bigoted mass.

ILL BET YOU WERE NOT EXPECTING SUCH A LONG BORING ANSWER!

I have Bipolar disorder and only recently (I have had it for about 15 years) come to see it as a gift. I am unusually intelligent and very artistic. I believe that both of these gifts come from being bipolar. That is not always the case with bipolar people but it is true more times than not

Just a glib phrase. True some people who we may refer to as genius have battled with madness, as have some total morons. Doesn't prove a thing.

I remember reading that there were twin studies of the children of schizophrenics showing that high IQ was more likely (as was schizophrenia itself). Could be that mental illness has survival value by allowing a route for brainy folk to enter the world.

A fine line, in my view, look how many geniuses were called mad before their genius was recognised.
