i'll tell u about my first and maybe it will b similar. they took a VERY complete family history, if u have time ask ur family if there is anything u should know about because they can screen for it now. then they draw a LOT of blood to test for std's, rh factor, etc (can't think of anymore). then i had an ultrasound in the office that was used to pick the gestational age and make sure nothing was grossly wrong (no head, heart, limbs). they will give u a picture and they will listen to the heartbeat. my appointment took 1 1/2 hours so u might need a snack. i have my first appt for this baby monday. congrats on the pregnancy

Get your weight, blood pressure, do a pap smear and draw blood work and probably a urine sample. Probably also do a simple exam to feel the uterus. They will probably ask if you have started prenatals and either give you samples or give you a prescription to get started. They'll also figure a "tentative" due date---a more exact one will come later when they can measure the baby with a sonogram. Be prepared to answer when was the first date of your last menstral period---they asked me about 4 times! Congrats!

Most likely just take your weight, blood pressure, urine sample, a pap and internal exam. They might take blood at this visit and depending on how far along you are, they might schedule your first ultrasound. They will ask loads of questions to get a family history and give you the do's and dont's. They will answer any questions you might have, so make a list.

Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting" by Heidi Murkoff. It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. Your question as well as many others that you would not expect is in there. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck!

Congrats!! They will probably take vitals like blood pressure, weight and blood works along with a urine sample and medical history. It will probably be the longest appointment you'll have being pregnant...ask all the questions you can think of.

On my first doctor's appointment It was mostly paperwork and lab work, I had that appointment at 8 weeks. Any questions you have as of your health ask! and make sure you get a prenatal vitamins prescription. Congratulations!!!

it depends on how far along you are and your doc. I went to my first appt. yesterday. I couldn't get in until then. I'm 12 weeks. I had to fill out paper work, urine test, blood work, blood pressure, weight. lots of questions!(medical background) pap smear. and because my doc. has the machine in his office, we got to see the baby!

They'll do the blood pressure, weight check, blood sugar tests and they will probably do a vaginal ultrasound. Have fun, and congratulations!
