My son did the same thing and I was worried as well! I even got him checked by doctors a few times but he is 4 now and he turned out fine! Just make sure after any serious bump, if you have concerns about it then it doesn't hurt to get him checked out- better to be safe than sorry...

I raised seven kids, all got head bumps and several required trips to the ER for stitches. I can see both sides of the coin... but if you're concerned, there IS a solution!

There's something called ProtectaCap and it's often worn by children with previous head injury or skull conditions requiring extra protection or conditions (such as autism) that would cause them to be less cautious in their behavior: http://www.plument.com/protectacap.htm

Toddlers are especially susceptible to head injury because they're just learning to balance and walk, their heads are disproportionately large for the rest of their body so balance isn't easy, and while they generally bump the two toughest areas (front and back) the choices are still to either protect their head or put cushions all over your house on every baseboard, table edge, hearth edge and doorway!

If you're more comfortable protecting his little head, give this a try :)

when they fall from their own level it is ok it when they tumble from the top of the table, dressers or counters, which they shouldn't be on anyway, it is time to worry.(same with stairs) Kids get bumps and bruises for their growing years because of the learning of mobility and gaining stability. You are a first time mom and need to learn to let them get hurt to learn. You are also learning. As you have more you are not so overprotective.

You aren't "over reacting" it's your baby and you'll always be worried about something...welcome to the club:) He'll be okay, my daughter can walk fine and when she's mad she purposely bumps her head on the floor... Thankfully they have thick little heads. Good Luck

You shouldn't worry so much, but be careful. I'd suggest trying to soften the things your baby bumps on - put pillows and carpets.

i'm starting to encounter this a bit too. i'm like you, i don't know what to do about him bumping his head. my son flings his head into the sides of his crib as well. but i have carpeting so for the walking thing i'll keep him there.

I honestly would put rugs down. When he does start to move around more, he can slip and seriously injure himself because wood floors are slippery...especially with socks on.
