I do it as well, it's really nice to talk to people who you don't really know, it makes you feel (and be probably too) social. I also talk back when people start a conversation with me, like that I get to know them a bit and I can get some new information etc.
But unfortunately it's true what Brian S says. My friends too say that I'm weird when I tell them that I've talked with a strange person about the weather when I was waiting in the library, like he would rape me if I just talk back to him, but I don't care, because I was just friendly to this person.

I live in Boston, home of unfriendly people. The only people who talk to you on the street at homeless people who are either high, drunk, or crazy, or all three. Those who do talk to you are tourists and they only want directions. I grew up in the south and its nice that people are at least friendly to one another and look each other in the eyes, however here in Boston, it is a bit scary interacting with strangers.

It is cool until they start telling me things that I don't need to know for example if I meet you in the bathroom out clubbing I don't need to know how much of a **** you are because you just sucked some guy dry in the corner, toooooo much information

Old people tend to talk to you and smile. Its a shame that younger people don't! Maybe its an English thing.

In France if you don't say Bonjour to the shop assistant when entering a shop it is a sign of bad manners. Shame we don't do it here too!

I smile at random people, if everyone did things like that or said hi to each other the world would be a great place to live :-)

As long as you don't go off on your own with a stranger then it is great to talk to people, I do it all the time. Old people have great stories to tell, so have many young people. It is interesting to hear what is going on in their lives, it is a pity more people aren't like you, !!!!!!!!!

The world can only benefit from friendly smiling people and how can you show that in any better way than to talk to people especially strangers.

i think that if somebody talks to you that you know .... it means that you are approache and friendly person. there is nothing wrong with being friendly and talking to somebody you don't know. but be very careful though specially when you are in a place that you are not "comfortable" or areas in the city that are not safe, people might be talking to you for the wrong reason and that they might be up to something bad.

I love when people I don't know talk to me. Who knows? You might make a new friend or find the person of your dreams.
