I had a change in my job status and have to reduce child support payments. (My ex knows about the job). I'm visiting the kids next week. Do I tell my ex today via e-mail or wait till I see her in person next week?

in person, ASAP... you won't get her reaction right through e-mail... this is something that is important, and things of importance should be handled in a mature way :) good luck!

Um I take care of payroll here where I work and the only person that can reduce what you pay for child support is the Judge. Be careful in what you do because she can take you to court and end up collecting more or you have to pay back pays..

Tell her today but call her. Email is more of an ambush; she doesn't get a chance to respond.
If you wait til next week the kids might hear/see you fighting and that would be bad.

so you mean that your job told you have to change and it reduce child support payments? call her and let her know and it a good thing and peacefully thing to do. Reason if you love your kids so much and show them the role model that you talk to her as an adult way.

I wouldn't tell her in front of the kids if you think it will go bad. I would explain the situation, the reduction in pay. Keep in mind that by law you are entitled to report your reduction in pay and request an adjustment. In TN the change in pay has to be more than 20% to warrant an adjustment, but things could be different depending on where you are located.

Were the payment amounts set by the court? Or agreed to in the divorce settlement? If so you may need to get approval to make any changes. Better check into that first.

If she knows about the job switch then she's probably already aware of possible drop in income right? For documentation purposes you should send a certified letter to her, your attorney and to the judge in your settlement case..include the case number of course.

I suggest to speak to her in person about the matter or at least pick up the phone and do it.
