The earliest I have seen was 9 months. It's pretty normal to start between 9-13 months.

There are exceptions to the "not before 9 months". My brother started walking at 6 months old. My daughter though, started at 10 months.

It is different with each baby although there are trends that say betwen 9 and 18 months. One way to help your kid walk earlier is to keep them in shoes from the day they are born. Shoes help kids keep their feet flat which is a big step in helping them gain stability. Kids that don't wear shoes until they get a little older have a harder time keeping their feet flat.

I think that it depends on the baby. If your baby has alot of activities that he uses his legs for (johnny jumper, exersaucer) then I think they will walk sooner because the legs are stronger. I also think it depends on your household. My oldest walked right before his first bday. Then my second walked at 8 months because he had a big brother to chase around. Then my youngest walked at 9 months and Im thinking it took him a little longer because he had big brothers that carried him around and he didnt need to walk himself.

I started walking at 9 months. My oldest child at 12 months, middle and third child at 15 months. It varies with each. Average would be 12 months. According to their development.
Before they can walk, they stand alone. Before they stand alone, they crawl. Before they crawl, they sit up. before they sit up, they hold their head up.
