so im sitting here reading cosmo.. i can't believe how much air brushing they do! do you think it gives women a false sense of beauty, and the way a real woman should look? and would you rather magazines didn't air brush, so that girls could start feeling better about not being "perfect!?"

They airbrush everything in magazines because they feel the need to make simple flaws go away easily, but, that is not the way society is. People have things that cosmo may call "flaws" but they are actually things that identify us and make us unique, like freckles. You don't see many women or men in cosmo with freckles, do you? I think it's horrible that they decide to totally modify the look of people just for a magazine. Of course, no matter what magazine you buy, you are bound to find some sort of airbrushing, but I have found that Seventeen magazine has a great deal of good information. They show women of ALL sizes, while also giving good advice on things that some people may be embarassed to ask parents or others about.

I totally agree with you , the emphasis made on outer beauty is horrendous , bringing up girls and guys for that matter should be more than a Barbie Doll /Ken look . So many young girls are practically starving themselves , because society is focusing on this way too much, it's GREAT to be healthy, but looking like Twiggy,,,not so much. I'm sure those airbrushed models get a pimple on their butt every now and then just like the rest of us do. It's more of a health issue with me , as opposed to the fake beauty look, although that's very irritating . You should get 10 points for asking that question. Have you noticed how many young girls on here are asking ,, I'm 5'5 112 how do I lose weight? Far too many and that scares me. Ty again for putting that question out there .

I think a person should do whatever THEY feel they need to in order to feel good about themselves and their apperance. Air brushing is just another way to say make up and if you feel air brushing is wrong and gives false sense of beauty then you have to feel the same about makeup or anything that alters your apperance from what you look like when you wake up in the morning.

hey wuzz up..yeah that is true. personally id rather go with the natural beauty.... i love to pamper myself..and make sure my skin looks radiant. i hate wearing make makeup all the time..
i think whats under is more important so instead of messing it up , i try to keep it clear.
if i wanted to go dramatic of course..i would want everything to be looking good. don't forget Hun... allot these girls with out make up look bad.
as for the air brush it makes the look better on camera..hun
so again...perfect..talk about fake. have u noticed how there eyes so full of surgery its hard too see there real look... period.
the most important is that taking care of the body is a must... being healthy..dressing good, at least smell good...well gotta go too work...take care

All I can say is, you got issues if you're using a Cosmo magazine to measure you're beauty. Besides, those kinds of magazines are so full of stupid ads... they're a waste of time. Maybe they should just start using computer animated models so they don't have to pay real human models anymore.

I can't believe it either! I guess I don't think they should do it b/c it does give a false sense of beauty. Everyone has their own flaws. Doing this I think makes it easier for men & women to run out and get plastic surgery to "fix" something, and when they fix one "flaw" they find another to focus on. I think the industry focuses too much on perfection. And no one is perfect!

Cosmo and other magazines like that , are just sources of insecurities. From the models to the clothes and the lame sex advice. Everyone would be starving, naked and full of STDs if you followed their words.
Jane is a good magazine.. a balance of activism and glam.

Absolutely..I have lots of girl friends who like to compare themselves to the girls they see in magazines and I think it's crazy. Some are georgeous but they have a tiny flaw and think the world's coming to an end. If you look at British TV for example...they usually use everyday normal looking people which is the way it should be.

Yes, I think most people would rather see real people. It's like artificial coloring. They used to make pistchios BRIGHT BLOOD RED, but when people compained and were not buying such a fake visual, they stopped and now they sell them in their natural beige color. I hope they do it soon though, b/c if they wait people may consider the unretouched pictures unattractive.

they have started a minimum weight requirement in other countries on models..... no one below a size 8!!!! finally real women models! air brushing and computer altering gives a fake picture of what women "should" look like, and yes it does effect our young girls, and our self images.
