Let's see - one year, I went with friends, and each of us was part of a sandwich (I was a slice of tomato). Another, I was Mr. Ed. T.V. characters that are very popular (and current) usually go over well. For the office, any character from the Dilbert comic strip would be fun. I once saw a fun one made from a big box - a guy painted it as a computer monitor, including the words to an error message, with a little blinking light (from one of those flashing lights joggers use at night) for a cursor.

As a kid, my most successful (in terms of sheer volume of loot) costume was Santa Claus. The best costumes are the ones you enjoy wearing, don't have to worry about sitting, standing or bending in (I'm thinking the girl at the office party one year who sat down, only to find her miniskirt hiked up around her middle like a belt, which didn't do much for her office rep), and have fun with.

I got and old dress that was 4 sizes to big and put pillows(2) and belted it. Found some grandma shoes,And bought a gray wig. I put powder on my face. Barrowed a cane. I went to work as an old lady. I was 29 at the time. People that I worked with for years didn't know me. What fun! I went to meet my spouse at a local bar for an after work drink. I sat next to him for 5 minutes...It wasn't until I order a drink for him that he realized it was me.

My friends and I dressed as California raisins. They played that song as soon as we walked in and we did the raisin dance. It was funny and everyone just loved our costumes. They were custom made with trash bags stuff with newspaper. It got really hot and we took them off before the contest so we didn't get in it. Everyone said we would of won. Oh well. Good luck with your party.
