Low paying jobs, high rent. Ton's of crime, drug problems like I've never seen before and obnoxious yuppie types. I know there has to be something positive, but the two years I lived there weren't real pleasant.

San Diego will always be relatively expensive compared to the rest of the country because of the climate. Sure, the housing market will go up and down, and we may be cheaper than Manhattan or San Fran, but we will always have something they don't...the weather. That is why people move here and are willing to put up with the higher housing costs and why employers can get away with paying their people peanuts.

You can already get great deals on downtown condos. There are a lot of incentives out there now. No HOA for a year and free plasma TV and applicances etc.

I've heard that from so many people. And the real estate boom down there didn't help... although when the flippers find out that they are upside down on their mortgages, they may be forced to rent out their properties until the market improves, which might be a long while. Give it a few more months and there should be some sweet deals on some of those empty high rise condo complexes downtown not to mention the single family homes that aren't selling either.
