I'm not a smoker, but I made the mistake of letting friends smoke in my apartment while visiting. Now my blinds are disgusting! The blinds came with the apartment. I want to get them clean so I get my deposit back when I move. I tried using a cotton rag and rubbing alchohol but it's a slow long process. Is there something simpler I should try? Should I just consider replacing them? No one will be smoking in my apartment again!

The best thing to clean smoke penetrated walls is called TSP. You can purchase it at your local hardware store or Home Depot type store. Follow the directions on the label. When washing walls start at the bottom of the wall and work your way up the wall. This prevents any streaking. TSP is used by painters to pretreat walls before painting

What I do it take bleach and water diluted solution and wipe down every blind till im satisfied its gone

And they will not notice your blinds are dirty unless its like clumping...your too paranoid about the deposit thing.

When a person moves out a crew comes in and cleans everything and or replaces things like blinds, toilet seats etc. and they paint

That 409 orange degreaser is the best for it. You can use it on blinds, vents, your stove, cabinets, whatever that gets smoke, grease and grime, it takes it right out with very minimal effort at all.

Take them out of their brackets and go outside. Lay the blinds out flat, with the slats closed. Use a hose to wash them off, and then use a sponge to wipe them clean. Rinse, and allow the blinds to dry.

That should take care of it.
