A two year old's attention span is not that long. A two year old wants to play with someone not with something. My best advice is stop wasting money on toys and take her to the park, play with her toys that she already has with her. Let her help you get things done around the house, give her a cloth to dust.
If you need to rest our something, have her take a nap with you.
If you are working from home and need to concentrate then hire a teenager to come in and entertain her while you are working. Since you are home and can take care of the important things this person would only be a mothers helper so it would not be expensive. Try to get someone from a college or high school that is interested in child development that way they can use the experience.

Well, it all depends on where you are, and what you are looking for. Are you saying that she plays with the same toy for 1-2 hours and then losses intrest, or that she only gets about 1-2 hours of play out of a toy and then loses intrest and never goes back to that toy? 1-2 hours is definatly a high attention span for a child of that age to play with one toy constantly, but not long if you are talking about not using the toy ever again. I might have some suggestions for you, please contact me?

A 2 year old has a limited attention span, she is not going to play with any toy for hours. Get things that make her use her imagination. toys that you put together the best on I have ever seen is a ball shape with 12 cookie type cutouts that have plastic figures the shape as the cutouts . The best one is made by Tupperware. I bought one for my kids 30 years ago and they still make them. As well as fun it teaches a child colours shapes and solving problems as each piece will only fit in the shape cut out

Maybe you should be playing with her instead of expecting a 2 year old to keep themselves entertained. Did you think having a child meant you don't have to do anything. She should be learning from you...not from some toys. You have NO idea what you are missing out on right now. This is a time where she will learn things so fast and your going to miss it, because your relying on some toy to keep her busy.
There are so many mothers who have to work and don't get to see some of the "firsts"...you should consider yourself lucky and spend time playing with her.

It's really hard to keep a 2 year-old interested in anything for very long unless you plunk her in front of the TV. I think toys designed for 2 year-olds are really limited because of the risk of a toddler swallowing little parts. Try typing in "activities for 2 year olds" or something like that in a search engine and you'll get a load of ideas for entertaining toddlers.

At 2 years old that is sufficent enough. I am suprised that she even plays that long with another toy. I am not cheap but when my girls are getting wild, (ages 3 & 5) I give them a shoe box filled with tape, post its, envelopes and crayons. They love it. And the possibilities are endless for them. Initiate some play and let them finish what happens. Like postman, or delivery person.

a couple of other 2-year-olds and a baby sitter. She is at an age for learning vocal and social skills, no toy will do that.

All of the little kids that I babysit for around this age have those leapfrog junior pad things. It's a learning tool as well as fun for them. They love them. Or maybe make her a cardboard city out of old refrigerator boxes and things. One of the little girls I babysit has one and her and I will play for hours, hide and seek, or dolls and tea parties, all within her box city.

I was going to suggest the empty box...
I bought some fly swatters for my youngest when he was about 2, because always wanted to play with the nasty one. He would put his flash cards all over the floor and flip them like pancakes with the flyswatters. HOURS, he would do this. It is a bit of a clutter if you are trying to get work done, but he loved it.
Really, they like what they think can't have... like the fly swatters.

thats normal! interact with her .. of course she is going to get bored ... 1 - 2 hours is outstanding -- but kinda of weird if thats all she has done for two hours. I usually get on the floor with my daughter and show her how things owrk and play -- and then leave her alone for a whil euntil she gets antsy -- its good interaction. she'll get bored if yous tick her with toys and no interaction -- kids love books too...good luck
