Both are good consoles it all depends on the games you buy to go with them.

All though there are not many games yet available I would say 360 simply because of the fact that you can play the old x-box games as well. The PS2 although much cheaper will be obsolete after the PS3 release. Software companies will only continue developing new games for the older consoles a limited time after the new platform is released so even though you will be spending more on your initial purchase it will save you in the long run. Do spend the extra money and get the 360 with the hard drive and all the bells and whistles. You will want the extras later and it is far cheaper to purchase it as a package.

Xbox 360 because they will eventually stop making PS2 games when the PS3 comes out.
The Xbox 360 will have a longer life spand than the PS2.

depends on what type of games you like. The ps2 has many rpg titles, (the final fantasy line, kingdon hearts,)
the x-box has moer sports titles.
I would personally wait and get the wii, which at it's starting price isn't going to be much more than these systems are currently, from what the rumors are.
I sujest going to Nintendo's web site and looking at this gaming console. It's a new turn for gaming.

PS2, cheap games and a huge back catalogue.
Xbox360 games seem a lot more adult aimed, not, (always), adult games as such but complicated story lines and controls.
The PS2 has great platform games which is a great starting point for any novice gamer.

i say buy a ps2. the game selection is wide and the buttons are easy to learn. and you dont have to buy all sorts of extras to have the same functionality of an xbox. i dont own a ps2, but i've played one and its alot more user friendly than an xbox. xbox360 has been known to burn DVDssss

If you have the extra cash, then X360 as the graphics and the power is much better.
Or you can get PS2 now and when PS3 comes out (THEY say Jan07 in UK) you can still play PS2 games on it and it supposed to be better then X360.

the xbox is more advanced but the Internet and multiplayer features can be complicated the ps2 is much simpler and cheaper but not as advanced
If you can wait the wii (Nintendo revolution) is coming out it could be very fun and original check out the link for more info on the wii

PS2, purely because of the enormous back-catalogue of cheap games.
though a 'novice' might want to look at game cube instead...

if your going online then x360. if not then stick with ps2, its good enough and if your a novice you wont be dissapointed with the lack of superior graphics.
