Yes, I learned a lot, but no, I don't do it the same way. My folks were from a much different generation with my dad making the money and my mom handling the budget for the most part. My wife and I both work, have our own checking accounts and have some joint and some separate obligations. It works for us.

My parents taught me to budget my money and to stick with the budget no matter what.
By having a strict budget, I was able to save sufficient money each month to invest and have a sizeable nest egg.
I have done that for over 50 years and it has been the biggest factor in my being able to retire before I was 60 years old and to have enough money to live the rest of my life with no money worries.

i learned alot from how to pay bills, how to build good credit, how to stay out of debt, how to get a loan and finance a vehicle, how to trade stocks online, how to work hard for very little money, how to be responsible and have a job etc.
if you cant afford it then you dont really need it anyway
im not as frugal as my parents because i waste a lot of money partying and going out- i just figure you only live once and might as well have fun when your young.... ill probably get better with age

Yes...I still believe in an old hand. They are great. They teaching me to see the value of money and how difficult to find it. They even teach me to put money aside 30% as saving since I was young. Till now we don't have any debt. I love my parents!

Parental influence has a huge affect on people's money habits; usually it's bad news, because we never saw the whole story anyway.
I am back in business school and intend to talk to my kids about money before they go so they don't copy my mistakes. I will even teach them how to do their own taxes.
Try to fight your parental influences; it's tough!
