You shouldn't be taking any laxative unless your doctor ok's it... long term use of laxatives can cause serious problems with your digestive tract... I would ask your doctor... I was told not to use any laxatives since I'm pregnant... If I get to constipated I'm suppose to make an appointment so they can give me something...

Did you put yourself on the dulcolax or did your OB tell you to start taking it? If your OB said to take it then it should be perfectly safe. If you decided to take them on your on then you need to get in touch with your OB and ask them what you can take over the counter. Eat prunes and drink prune juice. Prunes are a natural laxitive that seem to be pretty effective and perfectly safe for you and your baby. Here is a website that should answer your question about the safety of the medication.

I took Colace when I was pregnant for the same problem. It was prescribed by my dr. so I knew it wouldn't hurt the baby. Call your docs office and ask him/her to recommend something for constipation that you can take that will not hurt your baby.
