People are making the false assumption that because the government follows unpopular foreign policy overseas that ALL Americans approve of it. Those that do NOT approve of the foreign policy of the US government overseas need to continually point that out to the people that are posting the anti-American comments. A lot of people everywhere make this same mistake - they make the assumption (falsely) that is "one of them is bad then they are all bad". Respond by letting them know that there are 300 million Americans with 300 million different opinions - we are NOT all the same - tell them, as they need to know.

In a political sense, you run the world, and behave appalingly. But that is the government, not all American people.

As for the people, America has it's own brand of idiocy, that doesn't apply to all people but applies to some. Many in continental Europe probably see the British as drunken, idiotic football hooligans. That doesn't really apply to all British although it applies to a few. America has a sort of equivalent idiocy, represented by Christian right maniacs, the debate over abortion and the death penalty that we resolved decades ago in Europe, the word 'towel head', etc.

Re the comment about what America does for the world. You are entitled to that view if you like, but I'm afraid a lot of people simply don't think America is doing much for the world. Look at the state Iraq and Afghanistan are in now and tell me if America has really made them better. It's the absolute conviction by some Americans that things like this are good for the world that some find annoying about Americans.

You are even entitled to your wildly pro-free market stuff that all Americans seem to be infected with (the libertarian thing about the right not to pay tax and not have any government control doesn't really exist nearly as much in Europe, we are much more accepting of tax for one thing). The annoying thing is the blind and arrogant attitude of those Americans that won't even debate these points, and doesn't see how anyone can disagree with them.

That is just the negative side, I'm trying to explain why the American bashing exists. I realise that you have good, bad and everything in between. If you read British newspapers you'd think we must be complete idiots based on the views they put across. When you meet people in real life, most people in the world are quite nice.

And I'm sorry for those Americans who have to apologise for George W every time they meet someone in another country. It's OK, not your fault if you didn't vote for him. I don't bother apologising for Blair, maybe it's because I expect people to realise we didn't have any better options to vote for. (though personally I didn't vote)

One thing, quit with the jealousy thing. IT'S NOT COS WE'RE JEALOUS. Not in other rich countries like UK anyway.

You aren't like every other nation, in my opinion, because you all seem to think the USA is the best country in the world and every other nation should be like you, and that no other country is as good as you. "THE Land Of The Brave" We have brave and free people in Canada too.You display ignorance on a fairly regular basis and you insist on electing war-mongers as presidents. Would half the violent acts in the world occur if the USA was'nt so in-your-face and arrogant? I don't think so. You guys seem to be so worried about the rest of the world and whats going on in other nations, but you don't even look after your own people. Tell me, are all the people displaced be Katrina back home yet? Do those Southern States that were affected feel like life is normal again? From what I've seen and read you have to answer no to both questions. When you consider how many billions have been spent onthe "war on Terror" I could cry. Imagine if even one tenth of that money had been spent on your own nation You;d have no homlesness, poverty, hunger etc. Yes, you are like every other nation in that you have good, bad and everything in between, but no other nation on earth seems to have made itself into the world's army. Also, there don't seem to be many world leaders that show the arrogance that yours does. The Kyoto Accord is a prime example. Your president doesn't believe in the greenhouse-effect? How typical that he would think like that. The world is literally crumbling around our ears, but instead of making the planet a priority, he's busy getting the rest of the world in on the manhint for Osama Bin Laden. The person who listed her number one reason for America-bashing sums up the problem in a nutshell. She states that jealousy is the reason for all the bashing. Know what? I wouldn't be American if you paid me a million a year!! I've traveled in the world, and the USA is the consistently disliked nation. Think thats a coincidence? PS I'll bet to an awful number of people in Afghanistan and Iraq, you are the biggest terrors they know. Doesn't that make you terrorists too?

Before I say anything I want to say that I'm a very proud American. My husband is in the Air Force and has been to the big sandbox many times. We are currently based in England where I am confronted often with people who strongly dislike Americans.

The American bashers hate us for a few reasons:

1. They are jealous. We have more freedom and opportunity that any other people in the world.

2. Americans have a rude sounding accent and a rude attitude. I have never met a race of people that are as rude and unfriendly as American people.

3. Our government pushes other countries around. We have bases all over the world in countries we have no business being in. Why? Because we want to be there. Other countries fear us and won't tell us no. I'm sure that causes some bitterness.

Yes, as a generalisation, we really do. I think it's the superior attitudes. And the accents. Not that we can talk on that one, but hey, you asked. And people have been hating Americans for years, so if you're going to blame the government, blame the voters to...oh wait, gee, i think they were American

No, you are not like any other nation. You are hugely more powerful, but instead of using that power in a benign way, you apply your military might to trying to make the rest of the World just like America. Strangely we do not like this. We prefer our own cultures and we just wish you'd learn to respect that and leave us all in peace.

Right now you're the World's bully and nobody likes a bully.

If this country is so bad...then why do we have thousands of Mexicans jeopardizing their lives to float over in the gulf to get to us or crossing the borders. Haitians floating on headboards to get here...Cubans jumping at any chance to leave their country to be here....the list goes on and on...so I guess because we suck so much, all of those people are just coming to a bad country huh.

US bashing has become the 'in' thing to do among celebrities, pseudo-intellectual, college professors, the media, and other assorted liberals and activists. You will notice, however, that they all continue to stay and enjoy all that the US has to offer.

America has been hijacked by Zionist fascists who have shaped America in their own image. I attack those who support Zionism and/or who are agents of Satan. I detest evil.
