A Person born in USA (America) is normally called an American, as he is born in United States of America.
Such a person is not born in United Countries of America. When you refer to them as American you are specifying that they were born in USA. A person born in Argentina is a South American or an Argentinean and not an American.
The Countries of South American continent together form that continent. South American Continent is not North American Continent or not even the Sates that make up the North American Continent.
A person born Born in Canada = Canadian
A person born Born in Mexico = Mexican
A person born Born in Argentina = Argentinean
A person born Born in Brazil = Brazilian.
Even combined they are not born in USA (United states of America) and mind you this is not the same as the " United States of Americas ".
Here the difference is the states and countries. Even within the United Sates we have Texans (from the Sate of Texas) and New Yorker (from the state of New Yawhk) etc. But can you say that you are from Durango in Mexico therefore you are a Dodge Durango ( :D :D) or that you are a Durangoan? Similarly if you were born in the Mexican state of ' Aguascalientes' would you say that you are “ Aguascalientesian”?
A person Born in USA is American because he is born in the United States, which is not considered as a continent. Geopolitically, Northern America is a term used to refer to Canada and the United States together (plus Greenland, Bermuda, and St. Pierre and Miquelon). The United Nations includes Mexico in Central America. So America by itself is a country in the North American continent and therefore a person born in USA is American so he is differentiated from Canada Greenland etc.

No they are not.... Canada and Mexico are in North America, Argentina and Brazil are in South America and other nations are in Central America.
America is a short name for The United States of America.
When refering to all the countries in the hemisphere it is referred to as The Americas.

The formal name of our country is United States of America therefore those born here are referred to as an American.
Yes, all of those individuals are born in either North or South America (continents) but do not have America in their countries name.

Because we were born in the United States of AMERICA. It's not fair people think of the U.S. as the only America, but that's how it is.

So what should we be called? USians? It's the United States of America, dear. Brazillians are still South Americans. Mexicans are still Central Americans. Canadians are still North Americans. Why are you stressing over something so trivial?
