You want to go for the closest team, and here's why.
You being not into football yet wont care about any far away teams because you wont ever see them on TV except for primetime...If you live closest to Carolina, they'd most likely show Carolina games on TV every weekend for you to watch them. So I'm a Carolina fan but I'm not telling you to like them because I do, I'm telling you because you'll get to see them more than any other team. What's the point of being a Raider fan, for example, if you can't ever watch them play football ya know?
When in doubt, go for the hometeam. (Or closest team)

Hello to a fellow North Carolinian. The Carolina Panthers are a good team, some are picking to even win the Superbowl. I personally like the Dallas Cowboys because I have pulled for them for years before North Carolina got a professional team, but just stick with the Panthers, they are an exciting team to watch.
PS - I am a Duke Fan too!! (I am first and for most a North Carolina State fan, but I pull for Duke also, can't stand UNC!!)

I live in North Carolina too but I can't stand the Panthers. I'm originally from Louisiana and though I have lived here for 18 years I still pull for the New Orleans Saints. I plan to go watch the Saints/Panthers game on October 1st. The Panthers seem to be too injury prone.

When I lived in North Carolina they usually televised games featuring the Panthers or the Redskins. When the Panthers were not available they featured the Miami Dolphina games.
I rooted for the Panthers that years, and they did really well. I was actually hoping that the Super Bowl in 1995 was going to be the first one to feature two expansion teams - Jaguars and Panthers. Did it happen ? I can't remember....

Carolina is a great choice. I am originally from NORTH CAROLINA but, living in TEXAS. they did'nt have an NFL team when I left(1981). I have been a Giants fan since the early '80s. when they drafted Lawrence Taylor(UNC). I do pull for the Panthers when they're not playing the Giants.

I would say the Panthers, but then again you would probably be accused of being a bandwagon fan if you lived anywhere else. If you want to root for a team the media usually doesn't overrate (which leads you to disapointment) I'd go with Denver or Washington. Also both have good rivalries Broncos vs. Raiders and Cheifs and Redskins vs. Cowboys.

I don't follow football strictly, and most enjoy College sports over Pro for various reasons,,,but I have a suggestion.
Consider the Under Dog,,always... Don't always tag onto the most winning team,,,in anything.
Not only does the underdog usually work as hard as the winners, but they can be as exciting to watch in any competition, and perhaps with enough support, will improve their situation even if only by absorbtion, asimilation, and a word that defines,,, evolution by way of weeding out what doesn't work,,, DARN IT ESCAPES me. aH NO Atrition
I enjoy siding with any "Team" who needs, and often appreciates a pat on the back,,,even when they have LOST.

It develop into truthfully considered one of them, yet probable the biggest choke jobs are those human beings have suggested which comprise the Oilers dropping a 35-3 lead at halftime, the Dolphins blowing a 30-7 4th quarter lead, or the expenditures 4 instantly large bowl losses. yet even as i imagine of a choke second, I easily ought to bypass with the 1990 Buffalo expenditures (their 1st SB visual charm) contained in the Superbowl, with 8 seconds left, expenditures Kicker Scott Norwood misses a 40 backyard container objective to lose the game 19-20 to bill Parcells lengthy island Giants. yet another choke second might want to be the 1990 NFC Championship sport between the lengthy island Giants and San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers have received the perfect 2 Superbowls, went 14-2 in the course of the customary season, and were one first down faraway from operating out the clock and going to their thrid instantly. With 2:40-one left contained in the game, on third down and four, Roger Craig fumbles the football and facilitates lengthy island tochronic down the container and kick a very last second container objective to win it 15-13. Thise are some memorable choke moments.

It depends on the style of football team that interests you.
The Steelers play a tough "smash mouth" style that is strong on defense and runs the ball more often than passing. This often leads to some strange and "ugly" low scoring wins for them but is fun for watching them disrupt pass plays and stuff opposing runners while running over supposed great defenders.
If you want more of a finesse style go with a team that has a great quarterback like the Colts. They tend to be high scoring games. Sometimes you will get a high scoring shootout between great quarterbacks.
Carolina is not a bad choice.

To cheer for? Simply put, you really should cheer for your local team unless you cannot stand them for some reason. Personally, bad logo and unis tunr me off so carolina would be out. So I'd say go for choice #2, find a fave player and go with that team....remember that is your fave for life. No jumping on and off the bandwagon unless your team moves to a dome or new city, ownership changes and screws it all up or, in my case, Al Davis goes senile.
