Wow, that is scary! The best thing you can do though is to stay calm. I can understand how you would be really scared by that, I would be too. Please calm down though, OK? If there is something "highly uncool" going on between your computer and the netherworld, which there probably isn't, but let's just entertain the notion for a moment, if something like that is going on, your fear will be it's fuel. Are you using the same computer now? If not, go back upstairs, turn the offending PC back on, and take charge, calmly. Check your system logs, see if someone is messing with you. Check your disk drives, run a full scan with your security software, look at your history. Ask around, this could be a virus or something, who knows? Call the Geek sqaud to come over and check for problems. You could even try moving your computer to another part of your house. There are so many reasonable explanations for what happened.
Now, if you can find no other explanation, you otherwise don't tend to hear voices that aren't there, and you really think you feel the presence of ghosts in the machine, there's only one way to deal with it, if it happens again. Loudly, firmly, and without fear, order them to get the hell out of your computer, your house and your life. They do not belong there and if they don't leave on their own you will make them leave, which will be a very unpleasant ordeal for them, so they had better get the hell out, because this is MY HOUSE NOW!!! That's just what I heard you're supposed to do. The only paranormal experience I ever had was much less creepy and non-threatening. This woman who was in her late 90's had recently died, she had lived in the house her whole life, and was now turning the upstairs lights on all the time. This was my best friend who moved in there with her two young sons, and the upstairs was the older boy's room. She would only do this when the kid was at his dad's for the weekend, which was when I visited, and I saw it happen. My friend just said "It's OK Anna, just go to the light, everyone's there waiting for you", whenever the lights were going on and off, and in a couple of days, Anna was gone.
The most important thing for you though, is to keep yourself calm, and in charge. If you live alone, you might want to ask a friend to stay over too, just so you'll feel better. I know this is one of the weirdest things that can happen to a person, and I know this might even be a joke question, but in the event that it isn't, I had to answer because people were making fun of you or telling you that you're nuts. Well, you might be nuts for all I know, but this kind of s*** happens all the time and it's no joke.

It could be a coincidence that the sound in the computer stopped when you turned it off. Was there anything else near the computer like a cell phone or radio? Was anyone else in the house at the time? Was anyone watching TV at the time? Were the neighbors having a conversation? It is also possible that the sound of the neighbors' conversation was somehow focused inside your house.
One more possibility: how tired were you? On rare occasions people will fall asleep with their eyes wide open will standing, walking, working, etc. I actually experienced this myself once. When I was in college, I worked nights at a restaurant in the summer and one night I got into my car, put the car in reverse, backed up, put the car in drive. The car started moving forward out of the restaurant's parking lot. I pulled up into the driveway at home, stopped the car and shut off the engine. My heart started racing because I had just driven 20 minutes over winding mountain roads asleep with my eyes open.
Now I know why some people say they were kidnapped by aliens while driving and say they lost time.
You should be okay. It is likely you just had a very tiring or stressful day.

Freaky....I would be scared too if that ever happened but I cant think of anything logical that can explain what happened. If the computer speakers were definitely off then the sound cant come from the computer. Simple as that. So if you did or think it came from the computer then either the speakers werent off or you heard it in your head and by turning the computer off triggered something in your head to stop. I'm no psychiatrist so I cant explain what may have caused that. Maybe its not in your head.
Then turn the computer on again and see if you are able to recreate the problem. If so then maybe you have some kind of virus or your computer has been hacked in some way. If thats the case you will have to do some research as to how to resolve that issue.

ok im not saying you didnt hear it
auditory hallucinations can seem entirely too real to someone suffering from them
im not saying you need to see a doctor
you clearly arent comfortable with that
but you need to use your head about this
sit down and walk yourself through this without panic
in a reivew sence, if you will
now
could this have really happened?
with everything you stated- the speakers being off
which you acknowledged
and the computer being locked
could this have actually happened?
ok then
if one is suffereing delusions
one must admit to oneself what is possible and what is not possible
and then one must seek help
dont take it offensively
just take what you know as fact
and a[pply it ot what you think you saw and heard
and youll have your own conclusion
i hope you find peace
however you manage it

Ok, first of all I'm not going to say it's your imagination. It could be you're developing a sixth sense, and are becoming more aware of spirits around you. It could be they are trying to tell you something. Lastly, I must honestly say I envy you because I wish I had that capability.
