If you're looking for a place to live, it depends on how much money you have.

I suggest trying to stay in the city if you can, because the real estate prices in the suburbs can get pretty high, and commuting is rough (and we're beginning a major interstate improvement project next year, which will make the commute from the western suburbs even worse). I live in the South City area, which is nice and close to a lot of stuff, and right on an interstate that rarely if ever gets worked on, because it's in good shape. You might also look at some of the close suburbs like Shrewsbury, Webster Groves, or Affton (which are all south or southwest of St. Louis city) or Creve Coeur or Olivette (both west of the city).

Downtown St. Louis has lots of loft apartments available for sale, and they're mostly very new.

Apartments are available that are pretty nice in University City in a complex called Villages of Wyncrest, where I used to live, and there are plenty more in Olivette, University City, St. Louis city, and Creve Coeur.

Eat at restaurants in The Hill, which is a mostly-italian neighborhood, or in Soulard, which is a historically Creole neighborhood.

If you're looking for things to do, go to the Zoo (it's free, and probably the best free zoo in the country), the botanical gardens, the gateway arch, the city museum (look it up on the yellow pages, it's the most fun you'll ever have; bring friends). See a cardinals or rams game.

Take a tour of the Budweiser Brewery, just south of Soulard. There's a neighborhood of bars and clubs called Laclede's landing right on the riverfront next to the arch if you're looking for nightlife.

Saint Louis is a good time, those who say otherwise haven't given themselves the chance to really look at the city.

Move to the Illinois side it is cheaper and safer. As far as stuff in St. Louis being free, thats only partly true. Free admission, but they get you on parking. As far a night life in St. Louis, most everything closes around 9pm except the bars. Not much on jobs here, everybody seams to be not hiring or laying off or closing. St. Louis is a city by itself, expect an unfriendly welcome. I have lived in many cities and St. Louis is not your typical city. I moved here 6 years ago and if I had to do over again I would not.

Everywhere!!

I lived in St Louis for about five years and there is so much to do there (cheap) it's awesome.
The friendliest people on earth and the most progressive government I've ever seen.

From the Bush holdings to the Arch to Jamestown Mall to Plaza Frontenac(sp). The city holds all anyone would want.
Best fishing in the Mississippi and local lakes. Sunfish Lake (if it's still there). James Park. Florissant!

I live in California now, but would go back to St Louis in a heartbeat. I have to repeat ......some of the best people in America.

I lived inSt Louis for thirty years and just moved to North Carolina. St louis has a free zoo, baseball and football, sights in the city. As far as where to live, the least expensive areas being the suburbs, Bridgeton, Hazelwood, etc. It has good restaurants, casinos, things to do. Things it does not have, closeness to the ocean, closeness to mountains, trees, new houses are going up everywhere so not much countryside left. Very cold winters as it is damp and very hot humid summers.
What else would you like to know?

I myself am moving to St. Louis as well. Let me just inform you that EVERY home, apartment, etc, has an application fee. If you mean what area you should move to, I would say any of the county areas. The south city seems okay but definitly not the the north city.

Move to Belleville, IL. It's about 15 miles east of St. Louis. It's a lot cleaner, a lot friendlier, it's got a great Irish pub there. Cost of living is cheaper.

Town and country is a really nice part of st. louis. Also, the hill is a great itailian community. Even if you dont want to move in there, you should locate it to get some awsome itailian. Frontneck (sp?) is a nice place. Chesterfield is too... I think that covers it

It don't know what you like so it's hard to recommend a place to live. But there is so much to do for free here. The zoo, the arch, and forest park to name a few. I heard that people are really nice here. In my opinion they are, but I have never lived anywhere else but St. Louis. Hope you like it here.

From someone who lives there:

Please don't move to the county. I know the counties are nicer than the city but it's infuriating to see all the beautiful land ripped up for ugly, cookie cutter, over-priced subdivisions so people can move out here and make a city instead of moving to the city. The county roads weren't built to accomodate the increasing traffic so it becomes a pain to drive anywhere.
The city is being revitalized and the more people who move there will show there is a bigger need and interest in making it nicer.
