I bought a new o/s and plugged my 5.1s into them.. I bought cheap pc speakers and could get no sound out of thm so i spent a little more on better ones..I still cant get no sound...I have tried all the usual remidies but no joy....Does any1 know if it may be a problem with the jumper settings or connections on my motherboard, ASrock K8upgrade..Any and all advice much appreciated....

you said you bought a new OS does that mean you just reformatted your pc. if you did you may need to download you audio drivers.
to see if you are having driver issues do this
right click my computer-click manage-click device manager-on the left side of the window do you see any little yellow exclamation marks next to anything. if you do and its in the audio and sound section then thats what you need.
is your volume turned up, do you have sound muted
are you plugging the speakers in the right hole. do the speakers require power do you have them plugged in.

There is no jumper setting 4 sound,although u can check if its enabled if the sound card ur using is onboard...other than that c if u have the proper Audio Drivers installed & check if u have power ...Good Luck!!!

I dont remmeber any jumper settings for sound. Maybe the soundcard is not working. have you checked to make sure the voulme is up in windows. under control panel somwhere.
