My friend keeps her pet mouse in the same cage as her two pet rats. Since they've been together the cage has been giving off this horrible stink. Does something about the two species react in a weird way? It seems to get worse when she leaves...could that be because they are scared?

Mice have a much stronger-smelling urine than rats do and their cages require more frequent cleaning. Your friend should make sure all 3 are being permitted access to their drinking water. If one of them is keeping the others from water the urine will be more concentrated and smell stronger.

I agree with twisted, also I'd like to add that it is possible that the mouse is scared and peeing more, because you should not keep the 2 species together. She may be frightened of the rats and they might be bullying her.

She better be careful as rats can and do kill smaller critters like mice.... if she loves her mouse, she better seperate them.
