They have been Designed by Research in Motion as a mobile email,IM and Phone device. the user interface is also pretty cool, and the Quality is good too. PDA's are Phones first with everything else added...........poorly.

A blackberry is only better than other PDA's only if it does everything you need it to do!
I think a Treo is a better consumer product. It give you more flexibility, but doesn't provided e-mail with the same regularity as a blackberry.
So, if you're a corporate user and NEED to be connected to your inbox, a blackberry is the best thing out there because it is reliable, it works, and it gets the e-mail message to you immidiately.
So, better, thats subjective!
Just look at your needs, and why you want/need a PDA, and then you can deside for yourself if a blackberry is indeed better for you.

They are different.
The blackberry is built primarily to be a mobile e-mail solution. it has PDA functionality added.
Most PDA's were built as ... PDA's. They have added mobile e-mail capability.
I'd say, broadly, blackberrys are, in fact, the most convenient I've used for e-mail, but others are better as PDAs. So it depends what you're looking for.
Blackberrys are relatively expensive, if that's an issue.
