The Gatso units are fitted with infra red illuminators, use radar technology and will work in fog. However, they will not work in HEAVY fog. (you need blue-green Laser light for that) For ref. goto: http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/gatso.htm

As a rule of thumb Gatso cameras photograph your back end and Truvello cameras take a full frontal view. These days both types are often turnable so that they can monitor the road in either direction. This is handy when the traffic is "tidal", i.e. has rush hour peaks in alternative directions depending on time of day. If there were not markings on your side of the road it is unlikely that it was flashing you. Truvellos don't have a long string of marks, just a line across the lane. So, it depends upon which way the camera was facing at the time of the flash and what type it was. If you were within the speed limit you have nothing to worry about anyway.

Doubt it - but they may be working to improve them. Still, beats having to go out and catch nasty, dangerous criminals who might shout at you and be rude
