I walked past a building being demolised and heard cries for help, so I stopped and shouted are you ok? where are you? and the idiot just started to laugh. I laughed too. But if I'd called the police, fire brigade and an ambulance it could have been much more serious.

As for this guy, it is difficult to hear noises coming from under ground when you are in a busy car park, maybe the man involved should have used his mobile earlier then he wouldn't have been stuck down there for 45 minutes.

This is nothing compared with what the French can manage. I remember a few years back when a woman fell into some quicksand. Everybody on the jetty reached for their video cameras rather than mobiles and at least twenty people filmed the woman's demise. Nobody but nobody thought to call the emergency services.

I find it interesting that this came from Britain-in light of 'V For Vendetta',
and the fact that they've been disarmed and camerized, this is not so
surprising. I doubt this would have occurred most places in the States,
especially in the so-called 'Bible belt'.

Deuteronomy 22:3-5
3 Do the same if you find your brother's donkey or his cloak or anything he loses. Do not ignore it. 4 If you see your brother's donkey or his ox fallen on the road, do not ignore it. Help him get it to its feet.

Can I believe it? Yes. I, too, feel TV prank shows are responsible, however, ppl like dirty laundry!

Can I accept it? No, not really, but that does seem to be the way we're going. This is merely a milder, kinder step on our way to the video game Super Columbine Massacre-RPG! Sadly it too becomes reality.

The reality shows and stupid candid camera type shows are partly to blame. They pull these sorts of stupid stunts all the time to get people on camera and then laugh at them. It's like crying wolf. This incident is so bizarre that most people probably think its a sick joke.

It is dreadful and I hope I would not do the same but I am SURE they were thinking it was a TV prank. Those awful shows are not funny and are actually affecting how people act in real situations now!

that is ridiculous..absolutely effing ridiculous, how can people be so cruel..people can't have NOT noticed him fall down a 5ft hole..i would feel so guilty and sick, i have a bad conscience, i would have helped him (or done my best) and risked being on a pathetic TV show..surely the shows can't put you on their show without permission - copyright, if they did you could legally sue them..or i at least think you should be able to..

"There is no such thing as society" - Margaret Thatcher. Just about the only sensible thing she said. People don't actually give a damn about anyone other than those who directly affect them. Sad but true.

That is terrible. Maybe these people did not realize he was really in distress. At least that is what I hope. I like to believe that people are fundamentally good.
