Why does 70% of americans not have a passport?

Is it their ignorance?

Unwillingness to explore countries that have something called "history" and "culture"?

Because they might find out that Britain is not a country and might actually learn to disassociate England, Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland?

They feel safe in the sanctury of other "like minded" people?

They believe being america is the only way of life explaining their need to bomb any other place that believe otherwise?

Too many fast foods are stopping them from leaving the sofa?

Discuss.

Hey Andrew M,

There are 50 fantastic states in the US, and a lot to see in each one. I can drive to 48 of them, and stay at places like a native american Tee Pee - for under $30 per night. It cost me gas to get there. I don't find 'like minded people' in all of our states either. There are religious and ethnic localities all over the US. I guarantee that my thoughts are not those of the Chinese or even the Native American tribes. But I do seek them out.

Your assumptions are incorrect about travel, not everyone travels even where you are from. Also, you seem to have an attitude about it. You might have a better response if you invited us to your country with a positive approach.

As it happens, I would like to visit Scotland, and spend some time doing research in Genealogy. See the streets and shires where my ancestors lived. I would like to see the Wasseborn river - if that is what it is called today. There are places in Portugal, Spain, and Italy I would like to visit.

Hope you mature, and accept that people are different, and don't need to travel. Perhaps you can put in comments some of the really great things to see when I do plan to get there. Hey, perhaps we could have a pint together!

PS. I do have a passport.

How do you know this? How do you know that 70% of Americans do not have passport? Was this something that you read in a magazine article? You know----All people in the world don't tell all of there business number 1. As far as getting statistic from agencies in order for ballots or polls or whatever to be counted, they're incompetent as well. Look at the voting ballot for the presidential election! I'm not saying that you can't believe what you read all of the time. What I saying is that I myself know for a fact that every so many years when the census are passed out and they expect you to tell the truth about your whole entire life, people lie their as*es off. You know why? Because all people doesn't want the government having a microscope up their as*es. Some of the things that they request on those question forms are simply none of the governments business. And yes, if the government wants to find out, they can. But until then they don't get jack sh\t!

So for all of you that think you know everything about individuals on this planet and what they do, you might have some or most of the percentage right! But there is always 2 sides of the coin. You might have most of the percentage wrong!

Since I'm one of the 70%, I'll discuss it with you. I don't have a passport because I can't afford to vacation. If I could afford to vacation I would like to visit Ireland, Scotland, Italy and Australia. I used to want to visit England but I'm realizing more and more that the British are snobbish, elitist and terribly rude. I used to think this was an unfair stereotype but comments like yours are making me rethink my views. The last time I checked, the United States was the most culturally diverse country in the world. Everyone who emigrates to the US brings a part of their native culture with them. Weren't the first "immigrants" English Puritans who wanted the freedom to practice their religion without having to fear persecution from the Catholics and Protestants? Oh and your ignorance is showing when you confuse the American people with the American government. Most of us are very unhappy with the way our government has been operating but the good thing is we can do something about it. And about fast food? You just gotta love them Big Macs and Whoppers!

Well first of all, I'm wondering how accurate your 70% statistic is, what is the source?
If it is accurate, there are several factors to consider....America is a big, beautiful country and there's lots to see here. Many Americans enjoy exploring their country: the cities, mountains, seashores, and the many amazing natural features like the Grand Canyon. I'm personally ashamed to admit, I've been to Europe many times but have never seen the Grand Canyon!
Also, I believe Americans can travel to Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean without a passport (could be wrong on this one with increased post 9/11 security measures).
Your rude questions are quite offensive, and hardly deserve a thoughtful answer, but here you go.

Being with 'like minded' people isnt only an American trait. Years ago when I was in Spain there were oodles of English people over there moaning because they couldnt understand the lingo, couldnt eat the food, that it wasnt 'like home'. They are the same in Australia where they are called whinging Poms. Most other people around the world are like that too...more's the pity. The world is an interesting place if you are willing to step out of your comfort zone. Oh and by the way, an ounce of encouragement is worth a pound of critisism.

This question is awfully presumptuous and ignorant. Contrary to popular opinion, most Americans cannot afford to travel overseas. You have to understand - for a European, traveling to other countries just means that you have to take a train. For an American, it means a plane ticket that costs thousands of dollars. Also understand that the U.S. has a land area of 9,631,420 km² (3,718,695 sq mi). Most of us do not even have the luxury to explore our own country extensively.

I would also like to point out that our country is NOT a "sanctuary" of "like minded" people. We have 300 million people here, and they represent every culture, language, and ethnicity in the world. Maybe if you traveled here, you would understand that, and you wouldn't make the claim that America has no culture.

Besides, if Americans want to visit one of the top three nations in the Commonwealth, they are alway welcomed to come to Canada. No passport req'd at the moment, that may or maynot change. The other 2 are Australia & New Zealand. I rather like people from the UK, it's just snots like you I don't.

By the way it should read: Why DO 70%- It's your bloody language, use it correctly. ttfn........MOI

America is a big country. It would take a lifetime to see all of it. You can argue there's more cultural variation, but in some ways staying in the US is like staying in the european union - I imagine quite a few people haven't left the EU. You also didn't traditionally need a passport to get to the EU or Canada, so it was only for intercontinental travel, which lets be honest, a lot of people cannot afford.

USA contains 50 countries. European Union is the same, however you need a passport to travel from one state to another. In USA, you don't.

It's rather easy for a European to leave the country. It's a 3 hour drive. For Americans, it's a very expensive 12 hour flight.

Your comparison of Americans to Europeans based on possession of a passport illustrates your ignorance of geography and political boundaries.

Oh yes. You're also wickedly jealous of USA.

It relies upon. some human beings like chillier trip trips, so as that they are going to ski or snowboard and spend a week contained in the mountains at a hotel. Others like coastline climate and could pass with Hawaii or Florida. Disneyland is a trip, or long island city. tenting is conventional summer time trip. we are in a position to noticeably a lot say we went on trip whether we drove in basic terms 4 hours. Our trip journeys may be everywhere as long as we are "relaxing".
